I have the Emerald Card from HRB this year.
My card is no longer active and all info on account is incorrect as of 10:30 Am 2/17/2017.
Yesterday everything was fine, now they cannot find my card information anywhere. Told me I needed to order a new card and would be here in 5/7 business days. Then told me to call local office.
When I spoke to local office they said this has been happening for the last few days as deposits have been rolling in. They said they will call me back to help resolve the issue.

So my warning……..Call your card and see if it has been deactivated, the funds will not show up in your account if it has been.

      This is so frustrating.

And I think that a lot of people get them because they have come to know that tax refunds are available immediately after disbursed.. no waiting on bank holds or federal holidays. And the money is easily transferable.

I have a traditional bank acct but I love my prepaid card. They have a budget feature and an online banking system that is much more user friendly than my banks. I have perks where I get $ back into my acct for all kinds of purchases. Such as I get $1 back on my card every time my son gets his haircut. All kinds of discounts. My payroll check is available almost immediately. I work in payroll, we deposit our checks at 9am .. mine is available around noon when our company bank releases funds, everyone else hits fridays. I have extra cards attached for my kids that I transfer money for allowance on to. They offer money theft protection like that of a credit card. Lots of reasons to have one.

I am working out of state temporarily and am not close to my bank or their ATM.
It was easier to go through HRB or so I thought.
More free ATMs with them here.

Thanks for the update! I just never realized so many people used prepaid debit cards and why they would use one.

I notice you asking this question yesterday. People have different reasons for using pre paid for tax refunds. I have a traditional bank account but I always deposit my refund on a Walmart to keep my refund separate from my regular income. Sometimes I do something special with my refund and I can allocate better. I just don’t like to mix my refund with my income, then I’m paying bills with my refund and I don’t want to pay bills with my refund.

Just curious, do you not have a traditional checking account with a local credit union or major retail bank?

Why did you decide to put it on a debit card?

I noticed a lot of people here putting refunds on netspend, emerald card and amex serve prepaid debit cards…

So now what happens when the IRS attempts to deposit your money into an account they say doesn’t exist?
