I have an offset to Dept of Ed. Nothing is on transcript. I have the 846 and ddd of 2.27. WMR updated last night and has the 203 code, but still shows my entire deposit on the left. I thought I read somewhere on here, that the left will update about the offset amount. Is that true? Hanging on to a glimmer of hope… lol

          Hi @4babybirds

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but once your status changes to “sent”, if you have an offset with the Dept. of Education, WMR will eventually update to the message telling you that your refund was applied to the offset. All day yesterday I was on here checking for the same issue hoping someone would update with their outcome. I thought everything was good since it said the full amount was sent to my bank on my DDD of 2/21/19. I figured since I live in Hawaii, it might take an extra day or so to post to my account. But when I woke up this morning, WMR updated the message to reflect that it was applied to the stupid offset from the Dept. of Education instead. If you are one of the lucky ones and what you owe them is less than your refund, the balance left over will show. Unfortunately for me, they took my entire federal refund and I really needed that money too.

I didn’t get any notices from the Dept. of Ed either about an offset for the year or that I had some of my student loans in default. I just applied for consolidation so hopefully once it’s approved, I can fight this offset and try to get back my refund. I also had the same message up on WMR that they “MAY” take my refund so I got my hopes up. Some people on this site were also saying that if your loans didn’t go into default until last year that they wouldn’t offset you but that’s not true because that’s what happened to me.

Sucks but it is what it is.

Why didnt your husband pay his child support He must be pretty far behind for them to take it all.

Once WMR updates to the third bar, as Steph stated, it should update the amount.

I had DD on 2/22 minus an offset. All week last week I had two bars with full refund amount on WMR (including yesterday, which was my ddd) woke up this am to WMR showing what refund amount was, what the offset amount was, and how much was sent to my bank. HTH

A couple years ago I had an offset due to owing the Dept of Ed. I didn’t realize it at the time and still got a DDD. On the day of the expected deposit, boom, nothing and wmr changed to the offset msg. My DH filed an injured spouse form an the refund did come weeks later.

My husband woke up to code 203. Full amount on left. Called offset number and they are taking his entire refund for back child support. When he first filed it said he had no offsets.

Dont think it will show until after they have took it out. But im not sure. Always seek a deferment before hand.
