Hey guys. I moved to another state in June of last year. Just wondering if this will cause a delay with my federal refund? I have 3 W2s and 1 adult dependent (that I’ve never claimed before). Thanks for your answers.

You’re State taxes may be delayed. Depending on the time frame lived in each State. Generally, 6 months residency is required, minimum, to be subject to that state’s taxes. So, for example, if you lived in State A until May 30th, and established Residency in state B by June 1st, you would receive everything back that you paid into State A because you didn’t meet the minimum residency requirement for taxes. Flip that and say the same for State B, whichever length of residency is 6 months or more. Some States don’t have a personal income tax, that factors in also.

@TaxCane10 Thanks for the reply. When you say it will effect my state taxes, do you mean that my state taxes will be delayed? Or do you mean that the amount I receive will be effected?

No, it will not delay your Federal refund. But it will effect your state refund if you moved to or from a state that You worked in that you had state taxes taken out.
