Do offsets delay returns?

I thought I was done with offsets last year because my loans got paid in full over 2 years and I received a partial last year, but, the collection company for the dept of edu is offsetting again for $130 in fees they say somehow they didn’t take last year…. crazy….

I just want to know, I could call and pay them and my return most likely wouldn’t offset, but, cash is light so the only reason for me to do it would be to prevent any delay in my return. Does it delay the return at all?

From what I’ve seen over the years no, you should be fine. Unless the offset takes your entire refund.

I had a student loan offset a few years back. And It did not delay them.
