Has anyone ever had a Dept of Revenue offset for Alabama? Can anyone tell me if it delayed refund? I was told my federal would be offset over this. The offset is a lousy 232.00$

I’m attaching the last part of my message from above.

After filing taxes for this year a week ago, I was told I now owed another 400$ for this new filing to state. I have never owed state and have filed the same for many years. Don’t know what’s going on. My h and r rep told me to pay it and have my employer take out an extra 20$ out if my check to cover my butt for next years. Just wondering if offset will delay refund substantially..

            Oh, there you are,
I think it was me who wasn’t clear😂😂
I owed 232$ to the state of Alabama. For some reason, I was told they would take that debt out of my federal. I would think since it’s state, they would just take my state (if I had any coming) instead of just going straight to offset my federal.

Yeah only federal and a few states. Which pretty ticked offs dad owes $1800 in past child support, and they won’t even take it.

Could be. Not sure about Fed. State didn’t release my refund until after they subtracted what I owed. Recieved my state refund a couple weeks after Fed.

I’m not sure I understand your question, but I owed the state. They took what I owe from state refund, sent me the rest. So it was my stare that got held up. Not Fed. Sorry I wasn’t more clear.

Was your offset to Dept of revenue over state taxes?

It can delay it. I’ve had an offset that delayed mine, but only by a week or so. Not so horrible!
