I’m so sorry to hear that. Youre right that is ridiculous. They. Hanged my file date to March 6th but I filed with TurboTax and it was accepted Feb 3rd, so if anything comes up,I’ll be sure to fight it. This wait is nonsensical.

@Mrs watashie We have been waiting since January 30th with absolutely no updates. Our last “as of” date is April 27th. What’s really F’d up is we filed my husbands 2016 tax return on March 23rd (which was before the normal deadline) and they are charging my husband a late fee for filing after 9/20/2030 then an interest payment for paying late. He was getting a refund back but we have to pay for the non payment. It’s totally ridiculous.

Hi everyone. It seems as if I’m one of the last ones on this thread. I have been following since the beginning.
Filed 2/3 cp05 notice 3.16 ddd 7.29.
I did not get a TA I did not have to send pay stubs. I couldn’t find any issues with my return and spoke with the irs several times since the beginning of the shut down. I basically didn’t do anything. Guess it worked itself out cause there is a ddd date of 7.29 that paper was today. Wishing everyone else left good luck.

Got a call from congress. Employer didn’t report wages as they sold the business mid year. I need to provide a business phone number and letter on company letterhead verifying the income from the old owner. How the heck am I supposed to do that when they don’t own it anymore?!?! Its a small business.

So I have some information for my refund issue. The IRS finally got back to my Congressman regarding my return and because I am self-employed they are “unable to verify income” even with bank statements, log books, ledgers, etc and will not release my refund until I file an amended return without my income (it was a No-profit year anyway) but I am still uneasy about that. I am keeping all correspondence and proof of information sent to TAS and will fight that battle if needed.

I received a 60 day letter March 16th. Called IRS last week and was told to wait another 60 days before calling back. Transcript updated Saturday for a DD of 7/2. WMR updated yesterday to reflect this.

@KatieS I feel like everyone here has had their return pushed to the back again. This is getting ridiculous! My husband called sometime last week and they told him that his employer has until September to submit wages. So we have two choices 1. Wait til September and hope they were sent before The deadline or 2. File an amended return just as it is now and send a copy of the W-2 or paystub attached. Amended returns at this point takes 6 months to process. We are screwed either way.

We were told last week by the TA, IRS and the congressman that we needed to wait ANOTHER 60 days. I called every other day and asked the questions. We updated on Saturday with a DDD for this week. I heard back from my congressman and was told the tax advocate can see there was a up date but because the IRS is still technically closed he can’t see what the update is. So I now have to wait another 6-8 weeks in hopes he can see it then.

I filed 1/23 accepted 1/27 so annoyed.

I called yesterday and they said that I needed to contact the TA. Called them and she stated that we don’t qualify for their assistance. I then called the IRS, sat on hold for over an hour for the lady to state that we needed to wait ANOTHER 60 days since COVID shut down the offices and that no additional information was needed and that they will send a letter if they need anything.

Received CP05 3-16 and no additional information was needed at that time. i called my congressman beginning of May, on May 25th they called and said that they needed the last 2 paystubs of ’19, i emailed those back immediately after I got off the phone.

Finally got answers as to why ours is taking so long. They said that my employer didn’t send in my W-2 which I know is BS. My brother and I both work at the same place, W2’s were sent in together. IRS lost mine 🙄 hopefully we get a ddd next week.

Norm, it’s not instantaneous, but it’s quick enough. The IRS does mass processing on Thursdays. That work gets reported on transcripts on the following day. WMR reflects that activity another day later (Saturday), and the DD hits the bank on the following Wednesday. Six days.

Congressman called to say the IRS has began processing my return. Shouldn’t it be instantaneous? It is a simple electronic return.

I just heard from my TA. She stated that they have FINALLY processed my return (I filed electronically on 2/6/2020). My transcript has only been updated with an “as of” date of 6/8/2020. I am seeing some posts that the IRS is sending returns with interest attached. Is this true? Are they applying interest to the withheld returns?

I contacted them 4/17 and they sent me paperwork through Email, which I completed and sent right back to them. They forwarded everything to a TA on 4/20. TA says they haven’t gotten any information from the IRS other than that our return is still processing. We filed 1/29, accepted the same day. CP05 letter on 3/16.

Receive my full Injured Spouse refund yesterday in the form of a check from the dept. Of education. My wife had a student loan. They took entire taxes in. Feb. Kelly Smallwood (@twinmomma), my understanding is that “60-day review” doesn’t mean the IRS has any kind of deadline to act. All it really means is you’re supposed to refrain from calling them during that timeframe.

So, to answer your question, “What happens May 16?”: You’ll be able to call them again (unless they send you another do-not-call 60-day review letter).

My 60 day review is up on May 16th…There’s been no updates on my transcript since early May, when the date Apr 27 came up. The date still shows Apr 27. Also, our income still isn’t showing. I don’t know if this is why our refund was held or not.

I called my local taxpayer office and it gives me the number to the national taxpayer advocate line even though the taxpauer advocate site tells you to call your local taxpayer advocate…FYI

Mel82, as I said a few posts back, the change of your “As of” date is **NO** indication of movement in processing your return or releasing your refund. If you have TC 570 on your TS, you’d save time by contacting your Representative ASAP. Monday won’t provide you any good news.

I really think the “As of” date means nothing more than that the return was looked at for some reason sometime between 15 days and 21 days **before** the date shown. It doesn’t indicate when it was or is to be processed, and it holds **no** clue about when a refund may be issued.

Don’t get your hopes up because of a change in the “As of” date.

Good morning It must have changed over the weekend because I checked my transcript bright and early on Friday morning around 7am and it was no change.

@mathewcoopsr I looked my congressman up on house.gov. Emailed him telling him situation with IRS and refund. His office emailed me back telling me to fill out a rellenase form which they attached to my email. I filled it out and gave a brief reason(form asks for that) As to why I reached out to him, then attached it back and emailed to his office. Now just waiting.

@msandy73: Sandy, I’ve noticed 18 days. But I think it’s the 3rd Monday after processing. (So, if processed on a Thursday, 18 days; Wednesday, 19 days.)

Unfortunately, the As Of date is not a reliable indicator of when you’ll get your refund. I think it indicates that your return was “handled” (or looked at?) about two-and-a-half weeks before the listed date.

You want to see TC 846; that will tell you your refund date.

I am married, however, my husband used to work 60 hour work weeks and now hes cut back to 36 hours and I work for our local hospital and we are low work loaded and forced to take PTO (if we have the hours, which I don’t due to a surgery I had) or take NO PAY. We have a mortgage, 2 car notes, CC payments and 2 children, one being in daycare, but now with no school for the rest of the year.. it’s all crazy! I sympathize with you! I need my money too, lol!

I have a 60 day review that states I don’t have to do anything, but I already know it’s because my husbands income hasn’t been reported with the SSA. Texasrosie817, you can check your transcripts online (if you can fulfill most of their 4-step authentication process) or request them by mail (once every two weeks, I think). The IRS doesn’t make it easy. They do want to safeguard everyone’s information.

But once you complete your account, you should be good to go. They couldn’t validate my mobile phone (because I use a prepaid provider, I guess — it’s annoying, because my name IS associated with my account!), so I had to request a PIN by mail. Once I got that, I was able to follow the instructions to start getting my 6-digit validation code sent to my phone.

@ProudFatherOF1, my *thought* is that the registration of your new address means they’ve processed your return and it updated your address.

Transcripts update a day after they process. So, for “weeklies” (05), the IRS processes on Thursday, TS updates on Friday, WMR updates on Saturday, DDD is the following Wednesday.

But with the press to expedite processing, filers who might otherwise have been “weekly” may have been converted to “daily.” The IRS processes returns on Friday (01); those TS’s would update Saturday & WMR on Sunday, and the DDD would be for the following Thursday.

However, I would think that the update you’re seeing today indicates they finished processing your return yesterday; if so, I would still expect your DDD to be Wed., 4/8. If you’ve typically gotten DDDs for Thursdays in the past, then your cycle code should end in 01, meaning you’re not “weekly,” but “daily.”

(They’re all really weekly, anyway, as the last two digits of the cycle code indicate which day of the week they process the return.)

GoFigure, I stand in agreement with you, in Jesus’s name, that your WMR will show you that your return has been processed (as of yesterday, 4/2) and your DDD is for 4/8.

The pattern I’ve noticed is DDD six days after the return is finished processing (when it posts to the Master File). For 05s, it posts on a Thursday, TS updates on Friday, WMR updates on Saturday, and the DD is Wednesday.

Most tax advocates are working from home so I would suggest going on google and finding the number to your local tax advocate office in your area. If they dont answer leave a msg and someone should call you back. Let then know that due to are facing a hardship, I used the virus because I feel my employment isnt secure due to everything going on. Good Luck hope that helps

Working with a tax advocate who called me on Friday. So it appears that SSA never got my wages reported from my new job I started early last year so thats why I am under review. She asked me to fax my last paystub, W2, and a income verification letter from my job. She was soo nice and helpful unlike the IRS

Turns out that if a employer has 250 or less employees they are able to report wages via mail instead of electronically.

I faxed all requested documents and I hope this is over soon.

@BettyB, apparently, they never do, but it also appears it’s better to be proactive and make sure all of your wage information from your return adds up to reported W2s the IRS sees. If you have W2s missing on SSA, you’ll want to get a TA to help you through reconciling the information. The IRS will be content to wait 60, 120, 180 days, or whatever, for the information. It might not take that long, but do you want to chance it?

Read other people’s experience with the CP05 ..you will see it can be 60 days and another 60 days. CP05 is not a random review, it is because there’s something missing or something they are trying to match up. Get an advocate NOW, if u have hardship.

@Dave, I think you have that confused. To my knowledge (which I admit may not be fully accurate), employers report your W2 wages to the SSA and the IRS checks on that with them, but your self-employment income on your return the IRS will report to the SSA.

W2: SSA -> IRS
self: IRS -> SSA

is who told me why the random review turned into 60 days! If you were chosen for random review but still haven’t received your refund, I bet the advocate can tell you why! They will also be able to tell you what you can do to help get your refund sooner then waiting the hole 60 days!
The ones you talk to when you call the IRS are just reading you a paper they have, they aren’t looking into your account!

My advocate told me that the people you talk to when you call for an advocate read from a script! When you tell them what’s going on they go down a list and read the one that is similar to you! I do know that all past years…the w2’s would rarely be on SSA.gov and it was not a reliable source to see if u have processed. If your correct wages aren’t showing, contact your employers and have them resubmit, I was I formed by a very nice it’s rep, that most people are just waiting for verification from their employer, then when ur process date comes up, if the right information is there you will get a ddd, if not you get pushed back in the cycle until the next date.

And they have till end of September to do so. She also stated this is first year in her 14 years she’s even heard the irs holding returns to wait for employers to file! Wages and income transcript will be blank or say that it was not filed until May 18th. That’s when social security reports it to the IRS. Don’t worry about that one! Your record of account transcript has everything you need on it!!

Called today and they said under review that I may or may not receive a letter and then I asked but I have a processing date of 3/9 and then she said well it could be soon. @1jpena there are reasons to obtain a tax advocate, from my understanding just a review or wage verification isn’t justification for a tax advocate, I know I few People who have been turned away from tax advocates for these reasons. Some of us just have to play the waiting game and it sucks.

860 is W-2 or 1099 withholding which means that you paid in to federal tax.

766 means that there is a credit to your account, or that you’re getting a return.

The dates are just the final day to submit your taxes.

Yes. My transcript is accurate and complete. I assume that, at the time of my processing, the Social security Administration hadn’t updated my income. I’m totally just guessing & still assuming this is totally random because there is no inaccurate information on my taxes. Same job (18 years) and same child (10 years), so other than a change in income gradually increasing — the same return for 10 years.

if your transcripts didn’t update, the WMR wont update. Postings to the IMF get updated on the transcripts and then the Transcripts postings get updated on WMR. Its possible to receive your refund without ever seeing an update on WMR because their system is effin stupid.

Wages transcript will be black until May 18th when social security reports your washed to IRS. We are in the same 60 day review. Was told today to check our W2’s work our tax return and make sure that everything was correct (which it was), and if not to file an amended return and that might solve the review…. You don’t want a 971 it usually means they’re sending you a notice and it comes with a 60 day review. You want a 571 which generally means issue resolved and an 846 which means refund released.

Got my 60 day review letter on the 28th. It was dated 2/19.

It says to not call them until after 60 days pass from date of letter. We don’t need our refund. I just can’t stand the idea the government is holding money I overpaid for no reason. Our tax situation hasn’t changed in years. So stupid.

Called the irs the guy I talked to told me I’ll receive a notice that I’m under review for 45 days. He said it could get resolved any time between now and 45th day. Hopefully soon.. this is so dumb I literally file the same thing every year so I don’t understand why I’m being reviewed. So annoyed.. Same boat, EITC & ACTC filed and approved 1/30. Only have the 570 code with 3/9/2020 for 2 weeks and WMR says “still processing” since the first update after the 17th. There’s a letter in the mail today which I assume is the 45/60 day review letter. The only update on the transcript was the “As of” date which went from 3/9/2020 to 3/16/2020.

The TC570 code can mean multiple things, generally though, it is a hold for your refund date, which in essence means that your refund has been processed, but your refund is being held and should go out within the next couple processing batches. If there is no other code after the TC570, then it should be fine. Most people with the TC570 code, with a code after, have already been mailed out letters from the IRS as of February 20th or so.

Last year when I had a 971 with the date next to it, this means the irs will not send the letter out until that date. The 971 means there’s a letter of some sort but until that date you won’t know nothing about that letter. Good luck to you all, for me last year was a long process. I didn’t get my refund until the end of April.

570 in general is a refund hold. Usually there is a code under it that breaks down why it’s placed. We have 2 570 codes and 971 under it. We now sit and wait for a letter. Never have any luck getting a decent person at the irs and they leave us even more frustrated than before we called.
