I’m not ready yet to file but want to get all the info I can beforehand.
Here’s my situation. I’ve had legal custody of my grandchild since March 2018. I did not file her on my 2019 tax return but plan to on my 2020. Therefore her biological mother got both rounds of stimulus money for her. I also learned she claimed her on her 2019 taxes (grandchild has lived with me since Jan 2018). It’s my understanding I can file for those 2 stimulus payments since I would’ve been the one with the right to receive them. Am I wrong? I have all the custody court papers I assume they’ll want. Just hoping this won’t tie up my refund for months. And hopefully bio mom isn’t stupid enough to try and claim her again this year.
