My wife and I had our taxes done on 1/29 at H&R Block. We each received a letter stating that we each received $2225 of advance child tax credit for a total of $4500 which was half. When entering the information the “tax professional” entered that we only received a total of $2225 and are still owed $6775 instead of the $4500 that is correct. I never caught the mistake until after they submitted it and was at home. I called H&R Block and was told sorry, nothing we can do. Have to wait on the IRS to either accept it and you pay them back the overpayment or reject it and we will have to file an amendment. I’ve never dealt with this before. How long is this going to delay our refund? What is your experience with a tax pro making a mistake?

I had something similar happen last year with a different credit… I will be getting the rest of what I’m owed for last years taxes tomorrow 2-9-2022… it took them an entire year to straighten mine out…

Def not worst case scenario, this is happening to A LOT of people this year. I believe most returns with issues like this they will be caught, corrected, and then fixed before refund distribution. There might be a delay but I wouldnt expect it to be more than a week or two. However, whatever you do DO NOT file an amendment until after they either 1) reject it 2) refund you (regardless if they fix the mistake or not). If you amend while its processing, you will absolutely have a HUGE delay.

Yikes!!! This could really cause your taxes to be delayed for sure…once the tax preparer submit it’s definitely in the IRS hands and it’s definitely a waiting game for them to send you a letter because if all your personal info is right they won’t reject the return
