CP-05 Notice

Well, called to see why I have code 971 on my account that was added on 2/15. They said I will be receiving a CP05 letter. But they said it has a mail out date of 3/4? They said that my account is going through wage verification. I don’t pay social security as I work in state government and have our own retirement plan. Better to just give me a link to upload my documents. Taxes are fun! (sarcastic)
Anyone go through this in the past?

The lady I just spoke to said she doesn’t see a letter being mailed, although I have a 570 and 971 code. I filed and accepted on 1/21. She told me to wait and see what happens.

choose your language.
next, choose option 2, for personal income taxes.
Press “1” for “form, tax history, or payment.”
Press “3” for all other questions.
Press “2” for all other questions.
You’ll be asked to enter your Social Security or Tax ID number. Don’t enter anything.
After it asks two times, you’ll get another menu.
Press “2” for individual tax questions.
Press “3” to be transferred to an agent.

i called and they said the same thing i went ahead and uploaded all my documents to the irs site https://www.irs.gov/help/irs-document-upload-tool

i just called and they told me the same thing, i just needed to know what the letter was and i went ahead and went on the site and uploaded everything i know they need from me https://www.irs.gov/help/irs-document-upload-tool

I did a couple of years ago and I work for the state. It was because the state issued a corrected w-2 after I already filed my taxes.. I waited around until May when I finally contacted a tax advocate who helped me get the refund within a week. This year I received the 570 code, filed 1/29. So either I filed to early before the state reported my wages or it’s my husbands new job causing the mess.

I did one time 2 years ago and it took them a few months to process everything. That was during the year of covid so everything was massively backed up. Hopefully it won’t take that long for you but that CP-05 letter usually means you are in for a long ride til you see your taxes.
