          Your refund is under review, code.971 means they will send you a letter. I have same thing go on. It’s a time game from here. I filed Jan 31 and been waiting since. Can’t call IRS back until after May 16. This is ridiculous

            @ ValerieOK,

            thank you,,,,, I hope so because I need my refund,,,, like last month,,lol,,,
            This year is so confusing ,,, the rep I spoke with,, said, that I should have a DDD updated by March 20th,,,,, and my refund should come in a few days after that,,,,, I hope so,,, because I’m desperate to get this I have bills like everyone else,,,,

              @pinky rose

              I can’t remember which transcript it is, but one of them says the negative or minus amount is a credit to your account. That is your tax refund.

                When I spoke to the representative she also told me,,, that there have been a lot of tax changes,,, and the co outer system they still use is from when Kennedy was in office,,,,,, I’m thinking wtf,,,,,,, and she told me that by March 30th or sooner I’ll have my refund,,, and on my transcripts it say as of March 30, 2020 there’s a minus amount there,,, so idk

                  Yeah I saw as of today on my transcripts two codes,,, one of 570 and 971,,,,, but I spoke to a representative about 3 days before that showed up and the rep clearly stated to me that there are no issues on my return,,, so I don’t understand any of this,,,,,,,, and then it shows a minus amount,,,,, but on wmr it still shows tax topic 152,,,,, a refund date will post when we have one,,,,, so I’m as confused as ever with them

                      Good to hear @ jackie6. I’m still sitting here with the same codes and no refund. I’m at least going to wait until after the as of date of the 24th before I call the IRS and ask.

                            @jones

                            The letter I received in the mail was only about me opening an online account with the IRS no other info.

                            I filed on 01/27, and my transcripts updated with the 570 and 971 codes on the 02/09, with an as of date of 02/04/2020. As of date was originally as of 02/17/2020 before the 570 and 971 codes were present.

                            They have not changed yet last night or today.

                            I received the letter from the irs within 3-4 days of me opening the online account on the IRS website, and apx 2 days after my transcripts updated with that 971 code. So the timing is odd and makes me uncertain if my 971 code was truly in regards to me opening the online account.

                            Also, last night my bars disappeared on the WMR site and now gives the “still processing” and “refund date will be provided when available”

                            I called the offset line and says there are no offsets for me. My transcripts show an account balance which exactly matches me return.

                            My situation is the worse, not married (but living as married) but support family of 6, other than limited child support her ex pays. W2 employee but work out off house, and drive 40,000 miles plus a year at my expense. Bought a new house in August, but the amounts I can deduct for that weren’t enough to help this year. The new tax laws literally screwed me out of thousands (my estimate $8,000 to $12,000) by being a w2 employee but acting as self employed for the most part..

                                Same here, wage should be blank for a few months from now. From my understanding it takes a while for those to update.

                                I did receive the 570 and 971 codes. I do have an irs account to view transcripts, but I think I created that last year. Did the letter have a call to action from you? Or just a notice? Did you receive the 571 code yet?

                                What date is on your 570? And when did you receive the letter?

                                    Ok well hopefully that’s why I got the 971 code. Praying nothing more than that. Waiting for Sunday to see if my transcripts update. All my transcripts show, accept for my 2019 wage transcript says no return received. Any of you with the 570 code have a blank income/wage transcript?

                                    I filed before receiving my W2 in the mail, but TurboTax had a correct copy as my employer must of uploaded them to TurboTax. Just maybe I filed before my employer updated W2 info to the IRS.

                                      @Bob, IRS can go back as far as they feel is needed, if they believe there is a reason to!

                                        @Bob I just read in another thread that they had code 971.They called the IRS and they were told that letter sent was because of an account created and what caused the 971 code. Not sure if that’s what is going on. As of yesterday still no letter from IRS for me.

                                          Checked my transcript, I have the following codes:

                                          571 Additional Account <span id=”IL_AD4″ class=”IL_AD”>Action</span> Pending Date: 2/24/2020 Amount: 0.00
                                          971 Noticed Issued Date: 2/24/2020 AmiuntP 0.00

                                          I called and spoke with a representative today. There can be two reasons: first, I owe so a <span id=”IL_AD2″ class=”IL_AD”>letter</span> may be sent out notifying me they will offset. Second, I didn’t file my 2017, they may <span id=”IL_AD6″ class=”IL_AD”>hold</span> my entire refund until I file. Sadly, <span id=”IL_AD1″ class=”IL_AD”>I can</span> not file electronically, must mail it in (and get this, I am owed a refund from that!)

                                          Thank you for the info. I called the offset line and it says no offset found for me. Did u call that offset line, and does it report an amount for you? Any idea how far they can go back for unfilled taxes?

                                              @Bob I just created my account 2/4/20 and all <span id=”IL_AD6″ class=”IL_AD”>transcripts</span> for 2019 updated on 2/7/20. I am still at a loss as to the codes. I have not done anything different than any other time that I have filed. Hopefully we hear something soon!

                                              Did you also receive a letter from IRS in regards to opening an account? Just wondering if them sending that document would initiate the 971 code also….

                                                  Same codes and date here. But account transcript matches the amount on my return as of today. I did receive a letter from the IRS dated 02/05 in regards to the account I opened on the IRS website, could this be the reason for the 971 code?

                                                    Still on 971 and 570. Called the offset # and no money owed. TaxAct and IRS showing different refund amounts. I’m assuming it’s a math error but I e-filed. Anyone have this happen? I’m assuming next is a letter from IRS. I’ve read people still get refund then letter in mail. Also have a processing date of 2/24/20. Idk so confused.

                                                      Could also imply that you claimed the eitc or actc and your refund is held for now until the path act lifts.

                                                        You must owe some money somewhere and they are offsetting you for that amount. If thats the case, you’ll recieve a letter about it from the irs.
