Some info for everyone in this boat with me and clearing up sone misconceptions on some people with the credits who are getting their refund before feb 15: 1. If you are filing only CTC you will NOT be delayed. This credit does not give you money on your refund it only raises your refund based ob your overpament by reducing the ampunt you owe. You arent delayed because the refund amount you receive is only what you paid in durong the year. Your just getting your own money back. 2. If you qualify for ACTC you WILL be delayed. End of story. This is the refundable credit that adds to your refund per child. So in addition to any money ypu paid in that could be refunded you are also getting the 1000 per child on top of that. You are getting more than you paid in therefore it will be affected by the path delay. 3. EITC, this one is a bit tricky because SOME will be delayed and some wont, here’s why : overall the general rule from above applies. If the eic only reduced the amount you owe and you refund is comprised of only money you paid in then you will NOT be delayed. If you claim eitc with no dependants you will NOT be delayed. If you claim eitc with a dependent and it adds to your refund amount more than you paid in then you WILL be delayed. So basically IF YOU ARE GETTING MONEY THAT YOU DID NOT PAY IN YOU WILL BE PATH DELAYED . If your refund is comprised of ONLY the money you overpaid during the year you will NOT be delayed by the path act. I hope this helps cauae I see people calling people liars and fights happening when people say they claimed the credits and got theirs. Prolly not trolling liars just have a slightly dif situation than you.
