Can payment methods change?

Husband and I just filed our 20 return a few days ago and it’s just now being accepted. We chose to do direct deposit this time (we used a new tax preparer and our old one only got checks for refunds). Since we have recieved the last 2 stimulus checks via paper check in the mail, would we get our 3rd check direct deposit? I’m thinking not since the IRS has yet to even begin processing return. The GMP tool still says unavailable like it did with last 2 stimulus while they did direct deposits first, so I’m assuming they haven’tprocess or mailed our 3rd yet. We usually got our stimulus in the mail about 3-4 weeks after the first round of direct deposits were sent out. Anyone in a similar situation?

Also want to update- irs has recieved and and as of this am 03/21/21 approved refund, will be dd by 03/30/21. Good luck to everyone!!!

Update for pros with paper checks: The GMP page updated this am 03/20/21 saying they scheduled out to mail the check 03/26/21.
