You just woke up, poured yourself a bowl of your favorite sugary cereal (mine is Fruity Pebbles) and figured you would jump on the good ol’ IRS website and see what’s going on with your refund. You take a few bites of the most important meal of the day and then shock of your lifetime happens as Where’s My Refund finishes loading- WHERE THE HECK ARE MY BARS?!?!? Now breakfast is ruined because you can’t concentrate on anything, but finding out “What does this mean?” After a few minutes of googling and sifting through all of the double rainbow videos you come across a lovely little site called igotmyrefund.com.
Welcome.
So here are some of the reasons your bars could be missing:
- Nothing- No explanation other than a glitch in the Matrix, which has caused them to disappear.
- ID Verify- In the event this is the case the IRS will send out a letter asking you to call in or visit a website in order to verify your identity.
- Review- Sometimes the IRS needs a little more time to look over your return so it can get pulled out of processing in order for them to take a second look at it. If for some reason there is a discrepancy or they need more information from you, then you will receive a letter.
- Aliens have finally infiltrated our government and have figured out how to cause panic among those most vulnerable in the US.
So here’s what you can do:
- Nothing- wait to see if WMR updates or you receive your refund without any changes to WMR
- Call the IRS after it has been 21 days since acceptance or opening day (whichever is later)
- Wait for a letter to see what your next step is.
- Call the FBI and request to speak to Mulder or Scully (Mulder is more likely to listen to you, but Scully will give you some rational explanations that can ease your mind).
Now finish your breakfast because the only thing worse than missing bars is soggy cereal.
