My account is closed as well…and I called the IRS the first day that I got accepted and had them stop the direct deposit and they did and my check is suppose to be mailed on 2/5/16 according to the IRS rep and WMR. I didn’t want to go through that process of the bank rejecting the deposit and all that. So hopefully I have cut out an extra 2-3 weeks of waiting. I don’t know how long it takes for the check to arrive though.

It will just go back to the IRS and they will issue a check and send through mail.

similar situation happened to me, my tax lady used last years account (closed) instead of my new account… called ftb and they issued my check on the 1st (i was originally authorized on the 23rd) as for federal, its been approved and scheduled to be in my account this Friday (02/5) but will have to wait for the funds to be rejected and for a check to be mailed. BOOOO such an inconvenience.

The bank will reject it and the IRS will mail you a paper check.

I believe they will cut you a check and mail it.

Do you have another account with the same bank?
It depends on the bank, of course, but some will transfer the deposit into your open account. If they really feel like being nice, they will call you and ask you if you want them to send it back or reopen the account. That would probably only happen in small banks though. I work in a bank and one of my jobs is actually to take care of “unposted” transactions that try to come through on closed accounts. I’ve called customers before to ask them what they’d like us to do.

You could also try calling your bank now and explaining the situation to see if they can reopen the account in time….that’s depending on if your relationship with them was good or bad.

                  Waiting

It gets routed back to the IRS. They will mail you a check but it will take another 2-3 weeks before you receive it.

Yeah the irs will just mail you a check once they realize the account is closed. That happened to us last year.

The IRS will attempt to deposit the funds and when it gets rejected they will have to reprocess the funds and mail you a check.
