Due to privacy concerns, I’ve been informed that SBTPG will not be direct depositing funds for the next few weeks (at the least).

Instead they will be issuing paper checks. So just a heads up to keep an eye out for that.

This may add an extra week or two to your refund’s arrival time. A bummer, yes, but not too bad.

You are misinformed. There are people who received today after tech difficulties on the DDD last week

I had a ddd of 2/5 and was caught up in the technical glitch like so many others so my refund was delayed. Well as of early this morning my deposit hit my bank account. Not sure if the paper check thing is real, maybe only affecting a small number of people but I can definitely say there are those who got their direct deposits this morning. Good luck everyone!

I’m sure many are thankful for that info, @Jennifer! What an already stressful time of yr. I anticipate having to idverify, which I am prepared for.

So, because I don’t have anything else going on today, I called Turbo Tax, they have no info on any such directive from SBTPG, they warm transferred me to SBTPG, who knew they could do that, while SBTPG admits they have had some software issues with dispersing funds, there is in no way shape or form, a data breach of this magnitude. They are still having some software issues, it is not a hack, and refunds may, at most, be delayed 24-48 hours. They are aware of the major batches of refunds set to be released in the next 10-14 days and are confident that the software issues will be resolved before the 15th.

Further – sites like this can be useful to those unaware that there is a process (for some), if you opt borrow against your refund. Because that’s essentially what you’re doing. JH, fees last yr left a sour note in my mouth! NO more of that. Self preparer, and no advance from here on…

I agree. Yet, I have also in previous years, heard of the problems w SBTPG. Every yr in fact. Idk personally, because I have chosen to not deal w them. I do understand it’s unavoidable for some. So…

@Target I’m suspicious of the OP, how in the world would there not be a major news story about this Data Breach? SBTPG is a major clearinghouse for many banks in the U.S. Turbo Tax is not the only tax prep company that uses them HR Block does also. Tax Prep companies would certainly be advising their users if there was a Data Breach like this, Federal Law also demands that persons who had their Data compromised be informed. There are literally MILLIONS of people who go through SBTPG for one reason or another, Refund Advance, Tax Prep fees, Green Dot Debit, ect. So, I will verify, however, I am not at all believing this. Everyone take a deep breath, have a drink, it will most likely be ok.

@Kim, NO. They are not TurboTax. Further, you only have to worry (as Jennifer hinted), if you owe/took an advance!

@kim, yes, turbo tax uses this clearinghouse, however, I wouldn’t get too upset. There is no way that they would actually do this. They make millions on their products and services at this kind of thing would put them straight out of business. I have seen no announcements, nothing on there website, and, if they truly had a data breach of this magnitude, it would be all over the news. Some people have nothing better to do than stir the pot. I am currently awaiting a call back from Turbo Tax, as I have been unable to get a love person on the phone from SBTPG. Still, I wouldn’t worry overly much about this.

Seems they would have made a public announcement to their website if this affects ALL that the their tax service serves and today is the 10th of Feb.

Could it be that it has affected some and not ALL?

Unfortunately it’s true guys. I just got informed that I will be receiving a paper check within 1-2 MONTHS. They are placing ALL tax refunds on hold with DDD of 2/12/20 and later. Just got informed this AM.

NOT TRUE! I have been reading on this forum where people who had 2/5 DD are STILL receiving their refunds deposited RIGHT NOW! It may be slow but they WILL be there! Don’t start blowing up their phones yet! All will be well!

And to who ever thought it was cute to mess with people by starting this LIE, not funny! It’s very pathetic that you have nothing better to do.

I was told it would be May before funds would be released ONLY if your DDD is 2/12.

They have an 800 number you can call.

It Absolutely DOES NOT mean paper checks will be mailed to all and is false information being spread on their behalf. They always make exceptions to protect the privacy for individuals having to deal with compromised filing.

But this does not happen to all of their clients

The OP is bogus, as is their “friend” Singlesnydee. SBTGP has been collecting fees from e-filed taxes for many years and though some years have hiccups, they are not going to mail a paper check to all of their users.
