So I’m in what appears to be a unique situation.

I wouldn’t have thought so, but I cant find ANYTHING related online. This is my last stop before throwing in the towel.

I’m a stay at home dad. My wife works, and I have no income. As such I havent filed taxes in several years and we always submit hers as married filing separately to simplify things. (now biting us in the bottom)

I figured my portion of the stimulus was lost, and then I noticed the page went up for “non-filers” and immediately got to it.

Well the page only has an option for Married filing jointly, or single. No option for married filing separately.

I tried submitting with the “single” option and it was rejected with Rule IND-511 due to being listed as a spouse on anothers tax return or some such.

      Does a fix exist?

thanks for the replies guys. Appears ill watch n wait a bit longer. I wouldn’t have thought this situation was THAT rare and wouldn’t have been overlooked.

Considering married filing separately means you file SEPARATELY.

Ive found a very few references to said status online but they were outside the scope of the current stimulus situation.

If i find anything i’ll be sure to post back, and i’ll keep an eye for whatever new page is purportedly going up, to do so.

            thanks again

That is an unusual situation. My **guess** is that you’ll get only your wife’s portion of the economic impact payment this year, but next year you should be able to get the rest of the credit on your wife’s 2020 tax return. You might have to file married jointly, though, to get it; I really don’t know about that. You might want to ask a tax preparer.

So, don’t throw in the towel; because the EIP is available for the rest of the year and is really just an advance of next year’s credit, there’s really no reason to fret. I do understand, though, that you want and need it now, but take solace in the fact that just because you don’t get it now doesn’t mean it’s “lost.”

I’m also a stay at home mom. Best option which we always file under “Married Filing Jointly”. The good about filing jointly is you get tax refund instead of owning of course it all depends on your earnings.

Calling them would be a joke. There has to be an answer somewhere, maybe call one of the tax places like H&R Block? They are so greedy they may not answer without getting paid. Another page is to open up this week that may have the option you need or go online and file quickly. Claim $10 hobby income or something just so you can submit with direct deposit information. Hobby income under a certain amount doesn’t need a W-2 or anything. Good Luck!!
