Any one Notice Verification Identification Numbers on W-2\'s

Doing my w-2’s today I noticed Verification Identification Number, so put them exactly in the box on my box on return. I am thinking that these numbers help identify you as who you are by having these identification numbers from w-2. I never seen or entered them in previous years. ANY THOUGHTS??

They used them last year, but this year they’re using them even more. I read on the IRS site that 50 million returns will use them this year, and that it won’t prevent your return from being processed if you don’t include it, but that it will help to prevent fraud (and, I’m assuming, ID verification or review).
