I mailed my amended return in August. I messed up big time on original return and showed tax due of $4000. When I had the amendment done it showed refund due of $5000.

The amended return shows as recieved by the IRS on September 1st. However it states it is still processing. It’s been 5 months since I filed to correct and now the IRS is keeping my refund for this year to pay the mistaken debt of last year!

Is anyone experiencing this long of a wait for thier amended or have experiences from the past? Just feeling frustrated I am being garnished my 2020 refund because they haven’t processed paperwork that was recieved 5 months ago.

I never filed my 2018 taxes as I was going through a nasty divorce and my lawyer said wait. I filed them in December and they aren’t even showing as received I’m suppose to restart my college classes in March but they need this for FASFA

How long is it taking the IRS to process these ammended returns?

Still waiting for 2019 refund here. Not filing 2020 until I get my 2019! When it comes to paying someone to file your taxes and never get a refund its upsetting. Stimulus would be nicealso, but a refund is different its actually owed back to you from working.

Seems like you should have consulted with a tax professional and/or a taxpayer advocate.
