I did not receive any of the advanced child tax credits in 2021 for my two dependents, the portal has always indicated “pending eligibility”. I filed my 2020 taxes last February, received my refund in March and received all three stimulus checks. No amended returns so I am not sure why I didn’t receive. I am entering my information online to file my 2021 taxes and when I indicate I received none of the payments my refund amount does not change. The ACTC just shows as a -6000.00 credit, should this be listed as an actual refund that I am to get back?

Correction: Not the advanced ctc, but the remaining credits not received last year.

Should the ACTC be added to the refund amount, or will the IRS process that portion separately and make a separate deposit?

If it makes you feel better, I forgot to claim it on my return which is 4,500 from June to Dec.

My return was slotted to be around 11k which seemed suspect. I don’t think I received the letter so I just dismissed it when asked what amount for the actc. The next day I looked into it because it was bothering me. Hoping in my case the IRS corrects for me so I don’t have to do an amendment.

It also depends on your income. My boyfriend received one payment of $250. In so glad we went with our gut and opted out because he was over income this year and would have owed money.

soooo im confused. we got payments last year. we didnt opt out. i thought we get the other 1500 on this years return. but when it asked if we got payments last year and it confirmed it. our return went DOWN by 1500 . im lost.

its called an advance. meaning they advanced us parents money last year on this years advanced child tax credit. I got 250 dollars for 1 child for 6 months. thats $1500 so when i go to file my taxes this year, instead of the $3000 credit i would expect to get, i will get only $1500 because they already advanced me the other $1500 last year. so if you did not get that money you will not see a reduction in that credit on your return this year. i hope that explains it

I use HR Block or Turbo Tax, when I tried both neither added it to my refund. I got all the way to “ready to efile” and it never added it.

😊 In your case, you can count your $6000.00 credit toward what you will receive for your 2021 refund, granted you owe nothing for federal or state taxes.

If you didn’t get a payment last year, or if you opted out of the payments, you will get your payments in a lump sum with your return this year.

Same here I didn’t receive any payments and portal always stated “pending eligibility” what tax website/tax site are you using? My site didn’t apply it in the beginning but as I got towards the end I had to go back and it did the adjustment
