Taxpayers who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit may experience a refund hold. According to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue these refunds before mid-February. The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27, 2018, if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.

So they start processing them before and then can issue them on feb 15th and sending them out that date some banks do holds on large deposits exc. so they are saying you may not get it until feb 27th esp. due to the presidents day holiday

Saw this post on the link below…so maybe test batch eic refunds won’t be held… let’s hope so!

Amanda – My return was accepted on 1/17/2017 by the IRS. I too claim EIC. I spoke to a tax expert and was told they are not holding all EIC returns. If you have always claimed your child/children and had no major changes they are processing your return on time.
