Morning Patriots! (2nd Year Vet with IGMR)

I received notification of IRS acceptance on 1/12. I checked WMR this morning and it 1 bar, tax topic 152.
Filed with: TT (3rd year in a row)
      Filing Date: 1/9
      Accepted: 1/12
      DDD: 1/23-2/13
      TGP: Shows refund amount
Status: HOH (Married filing Seperately, but qualified for HOH, 3rd year now, with EIC, and ACTC (new child LY)
Early File Last Year: Yes (1/1)
      Delayed Last Year: No
      LY DDD: 2/13
Bank: WF (3rd year receiving, no issues, not earlier/later than WMR date)

      *Tax Law

There is a law that went into effect this year that says (in a nutshell), that all early filers MAY be delayed that have EIC, and ACTC (meaning ADDITIONAL child/children added that weren’t there last year). I have filed early for over 3 years now (1/10, 1/1, 1/8, and 1/9) and was only delayed once (last year) because I had a new child then as well. My delay was only a weeks difference. I’m expecting the same this year, but hope to be pushed early of course :)

That is great news! I’m planning on using my refund to move to a new apartment so the sooner I have it the sooner I can get started with all of that. Thank you for the clarification!

            Great post Mike-

You are correct, although after talking to the IRS, “The law is interpreted on a case by case basis, set up to catch fraudulent filings. There has always been provisions in place (when I asked about why the law was set up”, but the law ensures there is no internal, or external fraud” (quoted by representative on 1/10, 1:15pm EST).

The only way to truly find out is to wait and see. Either way, as I mentioned in my initial post, on a personal level, my refund usually occurs around the 2/12 annually anyway, so I’m fine either way. My early file has been fairly consistent, and I hope others are as well :)

Section 201 of the new law mandates that no credit or refund for an overpayment for a taxable year shall be made to a taxpayer before Feb. 15 if the taxpayer claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit on the return.

I was just looking into this myself as I filed yesterday, thought you would like to know you will not receive your refund until at least 2/15.
