      Filed 2/1
      Accepted 2/1

Filed and accepted 2/6 with no credits.

Had one bar and “We are processing …” until this morning (2/16) when it updated to “We cannot provide any information about your refund” with the code 9001 at the bottom.

It still shows my amount, TT152 and the standard “If you electronically filed a complete and accurate tax return …”.

          Wondering what is happening here.

Hi, I filed on 2/9/2019, I got accepted the same day. Via the IRS2Go app it was saying return accepted. My sister was telling me the next step is going to be the PATH act message because I Claimed my daughter. But when I woke up the morning on 2/16/2019 I got code 9001 and said they couldn’t provide me any info on my return. My sister is telling me to call the IRS they probably need me to verify my identity. But my tax person is telling me to leave it alone. What’s going on? Can anyone help?

No there is a control number on the letter you have to provide so you must have the letter to verify.

Hi Tracy! Where do you go online to ID verify and can you do it without the letter you get in the mail or do you have to have some certain numbers on the letter to be able to do it? Thanks

IRS Error Code 9001 is becoming a very common error code that a lot of people are reporting on Where’s My Refund.

But what does it mean? According to the IRS, all it means is that the Where’s My Refund system (or IRS2Go) was accessed by a secondary SSN on the return.

Some of the common themes I see with this are:

Wife accessed the return, but husband was primary filer
Kids accessed the return, but parents were primary filers
Family isn’t communicating and telling the other person they accessed it
Typos – Typo on the return or typo entered information on WMR
The bottom line is that IRS Code 9001 means NOTHING for your return status. It has nothing to do with identity theft directly (but it could), and it is no reason to call the IRS. For more information, see our detailed write-up on IRS Code 9001.
