Howdy just wanted to give you a brief heads up and leet you
know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue.
I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome. -

I believe everything said was very reasonable.
But, think on this, what if you added a little content? I ain’t saying your information isn’t good, but what if you added a
post title that makes people desire more? I mean 8863′er | Where’s My Refund?
is a little plain. You could peek at Yahoo’s front page and note how they create article titles to grab people interested. You might try adding a video or a pic or two to get readers excited about
everything’ve written. Just my opinion, it would make your posts a
little bit more interesting. -

Quality content is the main to attract the people to pay a

Heres my story:
I had to mail off my form because of the adoption credit.
Went to have it done by a professional on 1/26/13
she mailed it off on 1/30/13
I checked the tax refund website and it doesnt even show that they have received anything.
Should I remail the tax refund? or is it normal for it not to show up after all this time? HELP! -

So, ours was sent on 2/15 through HR block online… It was accepted, but still, as of today (3/12/13) all the IRS site says is PENDING…. Any heads up on this? It’s driving me nuts….

Hi,
I filed on 1/23 and was accepted on 1/26 but had to wait for the processing date of 2/14. I was able to order transcripts finally on 2/20 and received a DD for 2/26. I checked the SBBT today and IRS has already deposited funds but wont probably post to my bank until tomorrow. We are all finally being processed and anyone else still waiting should at the least receive DD by Friday. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the responses. I’ve looked further and when I call the offset number apparently the offset is against me and not my husband and it gives me a choice of personal or business information. When I check personal there is nothing but business says I owe State of Maryland. Which makes no sense because I haven’t received a derned thing from Maryland saying my business from last year owes them anything. Or heck any of my businesses ever, So odd. Of course everything is closed for the weekend so I can not talk to a person until Monday. Yay, two days to sit around and worry some more.. like I haven’t done that enough since 1/25. Wish it would give an amount at least so I would have some idea of what is actually going to be deposited until I can this offset business straightened out.

Here’s my story: I filed on 1/16, was accepted on 1/24 (IRS says 1/25). I sat for 3 weeks before they accepted the 8863, like most of us have. Reaccepted on 2/14, or so I thought. I was put back into processing on 2/20. I woke up this morning to a dd of 2/27.

E-filed 2/14
Accepted and processing as of 2/15
Checked today No updates :/
Tried to order transcripts, and still nothing..
anybody in the same boat? -

No, Blani, that is not a generic message on everyone’s WMR. I do not have that message. You might want to give them a call and see if they can tell you anything… or just wait until you get your account transcript in the mail, which should have some information on it.

Hey All Update and question:
Filed 1/22 with TaxAct, Accepted 1/25. 8863 form so was told about the hold on 1/28. One orange bar until 2/14 then changed to still processing and you will get a date when available. Then wednesday same message only the refund amount disappeared. Yesterday was able to order both account and refund transcripts. Woke up today with a DDD of 2/27 and both orange bars are back. Only thing added at the bottom is this:
Please Note:
Your refund may be reduced to pay a past due obligation such as child support, another federal agency debt, or state income tax. If this applies to you, the Financial Management Service, who issues IRS refunds, will send you a notice informing you of any offset they have made. The details of the debt are not provided to the IRS. Please do not call us to inquire about the details because we will not be able to answer your questions. Instead, direct any questions you have about the offset or debt to the agency identified on the notice.
For refund information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day.We do not have any offsets, we don’t owe anyone.. is this just a generic message on everyone’s WMR now?
Also if they are sending DD on 2/27 that means the bank won’t get it until later that day. We have Netspend for the receiving bank/card and Etrade for part of it. Thanks for any answers. -

Okay everyone, most of your posts are GOOD news! I efiled with TT on 1-26, it was held until 2-14 and accepted that day or 2-15. Ive had the generic 21 days thing up until yesterday when it added the topic 152. I called (800)829-0582 ext 362 waited 12 minutes(it said my wait would be over 15) and i was REALLY nice to the woman. She told me that my DDD is 2-25. Yay! I was able to order both my account and return transcripts yesterday morning prior to calling and now this morning WMR says:
Refund Status ResultsRefund Approved.
Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank on February 25, 2013.
If your refund is not credited to your account by March 2, 2013, check with your bank to see if it has been received.
I hope this is almost over for all of us. I will update with any changes.
Oh and when ordering transcripts, only letters and numbers in address, no puntuation

Finally some movement! I’m a 8863 filer and got accepted 1/26 but was put on hold. Finally got to order my transcript right now 1/20 at 1:14 AM. Hopefully, I’ll get a DD in a day or two

I submitted 2/28 and was also accepted on 2/14 with form 8863. Gosh! I hope we’re still in the 10 day turn around processing!

Well, I filed on 01/26. Tax Slayer didn’t send the information to the IRS until 02/14. I have a message on WMR of 21 days garbage.. Filed with an 8863. I wonder when we’ll get a DDD. I am hoping for one this week, But who knows.

That’s a good sign flashedbios, I’ve read other peoples post that say that a DDD is coming soon if you are allowed to order transcripts. One lady in the tt forum said she received her dd today and was accepted on 1/23. Someone already posted her screenshot on this forum for proof. My screen changed today to “your return is still being processed…” after having the allow 21 days etc. for several weeks. Not much progress but a glimmer of hope.

So nobody on here who filed 8863 has seen a change yet? I know mine was one of the first to be accepted. I used turbo tax. Im really hoping to see it before wednesday. I cant order transcripts yet. if someone told me i could have 2800 now instead of the 4000 later id take it. I havent bought anything new / expensive since xmas.

Ugh I’m sooo frusterated at this point. I still have the same one bar and 21 day message, nothing has changed. I filed 1/30 and am not sure if I have even been accepted as HRB immediately sent an email after my IRS acceptance email stating any IRS acceptance of an 8863’er was sent an error. I sure wish they would hurry up and start processing. I had to take a car title loan out to get through this month and have to pay it back by March 1st. I’m not looking for a spending spree, just need this money to get by…this is so ridiculous! :/
-
Anonymous
i need mine to get car insurance so the same screwy government doesnt try to screw my license. Need to move out of my present abusive situation too. People’s lives are dependent on this sh%t, and they just casually hang up on us and lie to us, like everything is all good. Why do they THINK we file early? ITS CUZ WE NEED IT!!!!!
-
Anonymous
Hang in there. Hopefully we’ll have due dates soon. At least you just need yours for a spending spree. I need mine to keep my lights on.
-
Anonymous
They said that they would START processing those returns on the 14th, not that they would do them all on the 14th.
-
Anonymous
I think the IRS lied. They said they would process education credit returns the 14th. I’m getting a 4000 refund and I’ve been counting on this money to go on a huge spending spree. Well I used wmr this morning and no update . I filed early too. Accepted on the 24th. Still says your return is still being processed. I’ve been waiting too long already does anyone have any info that might give me a good outlook

Been lurking here for a while but haven’t posted yet. Just thought I’d let you guys know that I just got accepted and I am an 8863’er. I filed on January 29th but haven’t been accepted until now. About the date that we all thought.
Good luck to you all. Hope you early acceptance folks get a quick return!
-
I am an 8863’er and got that same message starting yesterday, have had the Same stupid 1 bar processing since the 30th of Jan. I filed with tax slayer and was accepted on Jan 25th. This is the first change I have seen on Wmr since my initial acceptance.
-
Anonymous
I filed 1/18, early acceptance 1/25- up until this morning on WMR I have had the generic 21 days message and one orange bar. I now have no bars like people are mentioning and it says a date will be provided when available.
I hope this means good things!
I see there is another forum specifically about this message so I am going to check it out.
-
Anonymous
Uh, wow.
Called the IRS number to get to a live agent, to inquire about the screen change. I just wanted to make sure that it didn’t signify a problem with my return itself. She refused to look up my return at ALL, and told me, and I quote “You don’t need to be goin’ on the Where’s My Refund site when you know you got a education credit.”
Nice.
Incredibly rude the whole time, AND poor grammar. Stellar customer service there, IRS.

I’ve been following along, but just now registered.
I filed early with TaxAct (on January 18th). Self-employed, EIC, two dependents, American Opportunity Credit (same as last year). Got notice of acceptance on January 25th. From the day WMR opened, until yesterday, I had one orange bar.
This morning, it changed to:
Your tax return is still being processed.
A refund date will be provided when available.Looking around on here, I see that a lot of 8863’ers are getting this message, which calms me down a little, as a Ctrl+F search on the main page brought up a comment from someone that this message meant a 6-8 week delay. Really hoping that’s not the case. I need my refund yesterday!
Will follow along and update if/when anything changes.
-
Anonymous
Hoping for good news tomorrow!!!!

Yes a lot of the 8863ers got that message

Weird No orange bar on WMR even at the first bar.. it now says:
Your tax return is still being processed.
A refund date will be provided when available.
Anyone else have this?

WMR and the 800# still say they can’t find me. We filed with HRB on 1/31 with the 8863. I had no idea there was a hold up on that form and still feel gypped that HRB didn’t flash some window and tell me there would be a delay before I hit the final button. But that’s a gripe for another forum. :-) Anyhow, they sent an email 2/2 to tell me I would be delayed. My file says “transmitted” on HRB and I never could get an IRS person to verify whether it had been received on their server. HRB has held up our state return also. So, at this point, I must believe HRB when they tell me they will send it through on 2/14. If I don’t get some kind of confirmation on 2/14 I’m going to go crazy because I feel like my stuff is just out in cyberspace somewhere. Very unsettling feeling like this. I know God isn’t going to let my family be put on the street or shut the lights off. Not even close. We are fortunate. It’s just that momma needs a new car! :-) Best to all with filing this week and swift deposits!

I am not sure what to really beleive on this site. There are so many speculations and hopeful wishing. All is know is that the system will be def. ready 2/14/12. As for those of us who were “accepted” before 1/28/13. I just know i better not have to wait an additional 21 days after the 14 days. I will continue to say a prayer for us early 8863 and for those who have a dd please stop complaing that you still have 2 days and want your bank to release ur money early its pissing me off. Lets hang in there 8863’s!!!!
-
Anonymous
Ok, I have been stalking this page for a while, so I thought I might as well chime in. I filed on the 26th with TaxAct, went from “federal Return Received” for a couple days and then when we found output the delay on the 8863 I changed to “Awaiting Acceptance”. So, from what I have read I think that means that TA hasn’t even sent it to the IRS yet, is that correct? I see alot of people talk about what TT says, but not many people with TA. I am hoping that my return will sent over earlier than the 14th, but at this point, I am not counting on anything.
Oh, and the last time I check with WMR (a few days ago), it says they have no info with me. I am praying we all have our refunds soon!!! -
Anonymous
Also filed on 1/23 accepted 1/26th. Sitll in processing limbo.
-
Anonymous
@ theconners4 I sure hope so because I also was accepted on 1/26/13 with the education credit. I am still stuck on 1 orange bar. I can not order either transcripts and I sure hope that we do not ahve to wait another 21 days after 2/14/13 when everyone else is able to use form 8863. I havent called any one and I am getting more than anxious.
-
Well lets hope she is right theconners4!! I havent even bothered calling the IRS, but if I dont know anything , I may just end up calling myself.. I would hope that once they start processing, the ones that were accepted early and held because of the 8863, will be run through first. Who knows I may call if I havent seen any updates on mine, maybe by next Friday, but a toss up on which number to call to get a nice person lol.

Hey guys. I called the holds # and was put through to a very nice lady who told me I was not in the system AT ALL and to RE-FILE lol. Uh wth?? So I called the ext 362 number and spoke with an amazing woman who actually gave me some info. She took all of my information and put me on hold. When she came back she said they HAVE me return, I do not have to re-file. It is at a tax station and then asked me if we filed an education credit. I said yes and she said that makes sense then. She could see I was accepted on the 26th and thought that was a long time to wait but said it makes sense after I told her we had education credits. She said issues with education credits have been resolved and they are starting to process these returns. She told me I “should” have a DD next week. Obviously this is just a guess from her but still, it’s hope.

The form list updated on IRS.gov last night. I spoke to TT a couple times as well in the past couple days and they told me that my return should be accepeted late next week (14/15). Who knows anymore, but this seems to be in-line with what the IRS said from the begining.

Looks like there is a date of 2/13 for the irs form 8863 to become available. I’ve been looking for updates. But, this seems like the first concrete piece of information issued by the irs.
Filed the 28th myself and still pending on TT. Hopefully my return will be accepted on the 13th. Still not holding out hope that people who file 2/15 don’t get their refunds sooner than me. Seems to always work out like that when you get stuck in delays.

You have been connected to 04_Kirk W.
04_Kirk W: Hi Erica, thank you for your patience. I’m here to help you today. Give me just a few seconds to read your question.
04_Kirk W: What is your exact question?
Erica O: I wanted to check the status of my refund- WMR with the IRS isn’t giving any info on the status. Have you received any updates regarding this form #### that I hear could be the cause for delay on my refund?
04_Kirk W: More than likely.
04_Kirk W: Here is a link to our support site article explaining the situation:Note: Don’t worry if your tax return includes these education credits and has already been accepted by the IRS. You don’t need to do anything on your end. We will communicate with you directly to let you know when we are transmitting your return to the IRS – right now, we expect that to be in mid-February. Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, you can expect to receive your refund in 21 days or less.
Erica O: Yes I have read the “generic” article-lol do you know the status on my particular refund- does it show in your system
Erica O: if mine is pending or if irs has it?
04_Kirk W: Can you confirm the physical address and date of birth on the return?
Erica O: #### ##### ##//####
04_Kirk W: It looks like they pre accepted your return on the 25th which was 3 days before they made the decisions that they could not process the form 8863. Unfortunately your return is stuck untill they figure that out probably by the middle of this month.
Erica O: oh ok- darn it! last question for you- a coworker says turbo tax found out from the IRS that they will be accepting these forms on feb 7th- can you confirm this update?
04_Kirk W: I cannot. That is the date we are putting out a patch for some other common issues this year. However, form 8863 is entirely the IRS’s issue to fix. In other words, we are just as in the dark as you are.
Erica O: gotcha, thanks so much for your help
04_Kirk W: You are welcome! Have a great day! -
If you can do that msjoyok, then go for it.. Some of us who filed early, such as the 24th like me, and were “accepted” by the IRS, we cant go to another compaany and resubmit without the 8863. But anyone who filed after the 28th, and was never accepted by the IRS, then yes I belive you can do that…
-
Anonymous
I filed on the 30 and I am pending on TT, I’ve seen where you can go to another company and submit without using the form, get approved and amend later once the irs fixes the form. Some people are saying they’ve had success, I’ll let you know
-
Yeah, and that article says the 8917 form is delayed, and every other article I have seen, including on the IRS site, says that form is ok, and just not the 8863.. That article might of been from last year, as there was a delay last year, if memory serves me correctly….
-
Anonymous
If you notice, that article says nothing about 8863, which leads me to once again to think it is just someone taking the mid-Feb phrase and making up their own article.
If this were the case, we would be hearing the same thing from the MAJOR prep companies, not some obscure company I’ve never heard of.

That’s not an official statement. Never take something ‘found’ on Facebook as ‘fact’

Hope this latest info is true. Almost refilled this week without 8863, but glad I didn’t now. Hopefully Turbo Tax begins transmitting our returns this week.

So I found this on FB
The Internal Revenue Service plans a Feb. 14 start date for processing tax returns delayed by last month’s tax law changes. The IRS reminded taxpayers affected by the delay they can begin preparing their tax returns immediately because many software providers are ready now to accept these returns.
Beginning Feb. 14, the IRS will start processing both paper and e-filed returns claiming itemized deductions on Schedule A, the higher education tuition and fees deduction on Form 8917 and the educator expenses deduction. Based on filings last year, about nine million tax returns claimed any of these deductions on returns received by the IRS before Feb. 14.
People using e-file for these delayed forms can get a head start because many major software providers have announced they will accept these impacted returns immediately. The software providers will hold onto the returns and then electronically submit them after the IRS systems open on Feb. 14 for the delayed forms.
Taxpayers using commercial software can check with their providers for specific instructions. Those who use a paid tax preparer should check with their preparer, who also may be holding returns until the updates are complete.
Most other returns, including those claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), education tax credits, child tax credit and other popular tax breaks, can be filed as normal, immediately.
The IRS needed the extra time to update its systems to accommodate the tax law changes without disrupting other operations tied to the filing season. The delay followed the Dec. 17 enactment of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, which extended a number of expiring provisions including the state and local sales tax deduction, higher education tuition and fees deduction and educator expenses deduction. Now the million dollar question is since they started to process them we gonna get our money???????

This is a two part post.. Did anyone see this post on the home page feed?
Cliffy Says:
February 5, 2013 at 4:08 pm
I just got off the phone with my CPA who did my taxes. His office has just received an email from the IRS this morning around 10am, stating form 8863 may now be delayed until the second week of March and under any circumstances to not submit any more 8863 forms until notified by the IRS.I am taking it as a grain of salt.. at this point there is so much hearsay floating around that I am not believing anything until the IRS puts a new press release out.
2nd part
I filed 1/30 late in the day and was promptly sent an email notice from TT that the my federal return was not sent to the I.R.S as they were not accepting form 8863. The email stated that once the I.R.S notified TT that they were accepting the form they would send my efile to them. Fast Forward to today 2/5 I called TT to see if my return was transmitted or if they still have the return held. The lady on the phone was clueless she finally came back and said that my efile was batched to the I.R.S and they have it. I am not really hurting for my return as others are, I am going to use it to go on vacation in May. I am just trying to confirm what the status of the efile is NOT the return. I honestly believe TT just forced all of the returns to the I.R.S refusing to listen, which in turn will cause the I.R.S to reject all returns and make us all re-file which will make us wait until later this year for returns. -

I can’t refile with another company, as I am one of the “lucky” ones that was sent to the IRS early and accepted on the 25th. I found out about the delay on the 28th. Again, had I know that my return was going to be filed early, I would have opted to wait it out. From past experience, it always seems to me that you are taking a chance filing early and opting to be the person that they, “test their systems on.” I lurked on this page last year and can remember several early filers complaining that their returns were delayed because of filing early. I was livid when I learned that the IRS warned big named preparers early that forms were not finalized and that they had advised preparers against sending returns in early because of the fiscal cliff fiasco. When I filed, I was told that my return would be first in line when, “THE IRS BEGINS ACCEPTING RETURNS ON THE 30TH.” Instead, I should have been told, “WE MIGHT SEND YOUR RETURN IN EARLY AND YOUR RETURN MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT BE PROCESSED EARLY. IT ALL DEPENDS, OF COURSE, IF THE IRS GETS THEIR S*** TOGETHER IN TIME.” I do not believe for one minute that the tax preparers were not told in advance of a possible problem BEFORE continuing to accept and file early returns. Perhaps the small preparers were left out of the loop, but not the bigger companies. That particular form affects too many tax payers. They had to have known.
-
Any updates on the actual date the IRS will start to post the delayed forms? I’m not a 8863, I have a form 8859 (DC Home buyer) but I’m in the same boat, or maybe a worse one, since mine isn’t expected to be ready until late Feb – early March.

When I talked to the IRS today for the first time they pulled up my info and basically told me that it was just sitting there…i was accepted already BEFORE on the 26th in the morning!..and Im seeing people with the same form getting DD dates who filed and were accepted after me???? WTF

I have had the same issues with different stories. I cant get a straight answer from anyone. I spooke with the IRS today and they said they dont even have my tax return that i filed on 1-30-13. Then I spoke with Turbo Tax and the lady was a complete idiot and wanted to tell me that the return was pending in their system…which I already knew. She could not tell me if the IRS has actually recieved my return or not even though when i chatted online with a turbo tax agent they told me the IRS had indeed received it. So I dont know if Turbo Tax is just holding the returns or if the IRS just wont tell you that they have received it because they can not process it. I was also told that it is still Mid Feb for the processing but she would not tell me anymore than that.

Food For Thought?? Something I posted on FB, “I Got My Refund Page.” Comments????
I am a fellow 8863’r. I filed with turbo tax on the 21rst, and was accepted on the 25th. I finally broke down and called the IRS myself today. The lady I had was extremely cordial. However, she mentioned that tax returns that include 8863 might not be processed until LATE FEBRUARY OR EARLY MARCH. I wanted to cry. I know that all the reps from the IRS are giving us all different stories, but just wanted to share mine!
I wanted to add one more thing…Like many of you, I decided to file as soon as I received my tax information. Largely I did this because Turbo Tax reassured me that by filing early, I would be the, “first in line to get my refund faster.” When speaking to the IRS rep, I told her that had I known about the 8863 form delay, I would have opted to leave it out since it did not effect my refund by a huge amount. This IRS lady told me that they informed ALL TAX PREPARERS about allowing customers to file early because of the end of the year fiasco. As you all recall, the form was delayed on the 28th. Had I waited until the 30th, opening day, I would not be in this mess. She specifically told me that all of the “big name” tax preparation companies were informed of this. So, I, myself, hold Turbo Tax partly responsible. Last year, I remember that a number of early filers were delayed as well. This will not happen again next year. I will wait until a day or two after opening. Even if it means I wait a week, its certainly better than waiting for a month and a half.
And just one more final thought….A number of people have commented that it is common knowledge for the IRS to, “accept a few returns early to test their software.” When I filed our taxes, I was told by turbo tax that OUR refund would be submitted to the IRS on the 30th, the first day the IRS was starting to accept refunds. Never in any fine print did I notice anything about authorizing them to submit my return early in order to be a, “test subject.” Again, the news of the 8863 was announced on the 28th. Had TT waited until the 30th to submit our returns, I could have possibly called them and perhaps did something about omitting that form. It was my understanding that even though I filed on the 21rst, my return would be HELD by TT until the IRS began accepting returns. I don’t know about you all, but I think of tax time as my Christmas! I patiently count down the days until tax time as it is the one time of year I am able to splurge on something nice for our family. I would not have CHOSEN to roll the dice basically and be a test subject, especially knowing about the financial cliff crap at the end of the year.

Anyone get any updates ? So frustrated. Every year they have issues and have to hold returns up for one reason or another. How about getting all your ducks in a row and having everything good to go by January 15th every year. If congress makes changes, they should have to wait until the following year.. good or bad.

IRS Calls from Feb 4, 2013:
IRS Agent name: Dennis Ragen (call 1)
badge number: 2627475
Aren’t processing until mid Feb. Don’t need to take addition action at this time. Wouldn’t give any information about return at all.IRS Agent Name: Mrs. Rickman (call 2)
Badge #: 0584322
Told them I wanted to confirm banking information.
Accepted 1/24:
Normal processing time is 3 weeks. If nothing, has to adhere to that time frame. *bunch of bull*
Do have return, is being processed, refund is $1707.
What they have on the 8863 issues: if the IRS received before Jan 27, will hold until mid Feb. even though they are “processing” they aren’t really processing. Apparently any dates given (2/7, 2/11 or 2/15) weren’t given by her, and as such, she can’t answer why they are being given out. -

Did they explain projected date to you? The lady I spoke to last week that told me projected date could not tell me if that’s when it will start processing, finish processing or DD.

I just got off the phone with the IRS and they stated I have a projected date of the 11th for a refund. Lets see how true that is, hope so. If you call the IRS do not tell them that you filed the 8863. And when they ask you to chek online, tell them you cant get on, and they will review your file and let you know what is your projected date. Good Luck everyone!

I was accepted on 1/25 with form 8863. My State return finished final processing stage on 1/31. It says my State will be mailed on or before 2/14, so I am thinking our Federal returns with 8863 form will arrive right around 2/11.

@CHRISTIE yeah It looks like they are staying from the back and working up. Also from what I noticed in the main forum, SNAPS said her friend that’s a rep or something says the early accepted 8863ers (ones th3at didn’t get rejected) should receive something within the next 7 days. When you scroll up in this forum, a lot of people said they have projected dates for the 11th or irs will start processing by the 11th. If you look at it, 7 days from Monday makes the 11th so Ihave faith that we should be okay :-)

Im a 8863 filer I filed january 7 and got accepted january 24 mine still says processing my hope is that they are processing ours and will start issuing refunds on the 11 and 15 which would actually be 21 days for those of us accepted early just a hope and a hunch

I am in the same boat. Filed on the 10th, accepted late on the 24th (so really the 25th) and still sitting at one bar. All because of this form. :(

First in = First out. At least that’s how it should be. We were at the head of the line and because they screwed up and was not able to process our returns – we are being punished and have to wait???? Exactly what I would expect from a non-efficient government agency. NOTHING EVER MAKES ANY SENSE!!!!

Just an update here. For those of u who have the 8863 form, if u are on hold and wish to refile w/out the form best to do so with the same software that u used first.the irs only acknowledges the last return filed. Where as if u use 2different programs, the retufn without the form will get accspted and processed. Then the return on hold will get sent when its time…will put you at risk for fraud audit! Hope this helps :)

heard that if you were not accepted you could go to a different tax prep company and file through them without 8863 and IF that one gets accepted the pending one with 8863 will be rejected. Once you receive your refund you can then file an amended return with the 8863 form for the balance of the refund due you. Hope that helps.

Hello, I efiled my taxes online with hrblock on jan 30th with the 8863 form. (because i wasn’t aware of the delay on the form obviously, or i would have filled regular, and amended later for my education portion.) Anyways, I received the email below from hrblock on feb 1st:
We’ve received your e-filed return. The IRS has notified us that it won’t be accepting returns that include certain forms until later. This delay is industry-wide, regardless of tax preparation method.
Your return contains 1 of these forms. Until the IRS is ready, your return is being stored on our secure servers.
The IRS will begin processing returns with this form in mid-February. To learn more, see the IRS Form 8863 press release.
Form 8863: Education Credits (American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning credits)
The IRS will begin processing returns with these forms in late February or early March. To learn more about these forms, see the IRS press release.
Form 4562: Depreciation and Amortization
Form 8396: Mortgage Interest Credit
Form 8582: Passive Activity Loss Limitations
If you prepared a state return, it will also be held. Your federal return must be accepted by the IRS before you can file your state return.
We’re monitoring the situation closely. As soon as the IRS updates its system, we’ll send your return immediately. We’ll send you an e-mail with the status of your return(s) once the IRS – and the state office, if applicable – processes it.
————– end of emailSo my question is… does anyone know if its okay to go to another tax service and file my taxes (without form 8863)??? since hrblock says they are just storing my taxes in their database… and its not officially at the irs yet.
Thanks!

I was also accepted on the 24th and still “processing” Spoke to a IRS agent and he told me its suspended until the 15th..then it will start processing again. I am just praying that they are just allowing a cushion for their-selves and its true that they have started SLOWLY processing the 8863s. Hoping for good news with a DD soon!!!!

I was accepted on the 24th and I have one bar on WMR

@cassie i can agree. i was rejected the 30th.. fixed it and re- efiled the same day.. (after initially filing on the 19th) now it still hasn’t been re-accepted because of the form..smh
-
cassie
Im getting so frustrated with this…I filed 8863 on 1/26 and never even got accepted so now TT is just holding my return…so I have absolutely no clue what to even expect. I would be content with just an accepted status at this point! Grrr….guess thats what I get for being organized and filing early :/
-

gm.. found out as an 8863 er that my efile won’t be transmitted to the IRS even though H and R has it until the IRS gives the okay that they are accepting that particular form. Got an email from H and R this morning.. ugh

Mine was accepted early on 1/26, 8863 of course, still showing orange bar with return accepted and process, 21 days. I just pray this process hurries up this is just not fair.
-

my theory is they are going to take the taxes they have on hold already that they did accept like mine on the 24th(8863 yes)or jarons mothers and use us as test dummies and if they go through we will have our return in 3 days direct deposit couple weeks papercheck.or if you filed later and just held in longo they will tell you a couple weeks.
-
LoriP
@jarons mother is that a projected date for deposit or processing?? Looking at another post they said the IRS will send them through on the 11th and refunds will go out for them starting a few weeks after that. I truly hope not!
-

Called a few days ago spoke with a lady she states i they have my return n its being processed and said my projected date was 2/14 I have form 8863

okay I guess it is good news that I am able to order my return transcript as of 2:20 est… I have no freaking clue what it means…. but i hope its good news… and yes I am a 8863 accepted 23rd hope this helps
-

When I spoke with the irs rep I was told 8863 form filers should start being sent through on the 11th. If all checks out and there isnt any flags that refunds will go out for them starting a few weeks after that.

I efiled on 1/23 and my federal is still pending (of course)….BUT, my state taxes through GA were just accepted about an hour ago!!!! Thank the Lord!
Now, I’m just praying that they get the kinks worked out for the 8863 to be accepted through federal. -

hello my fellow 8863’rs nice to meet you all… messed up we had to have a support group for this but here goes
Filed on the 7th accepted the 23rd (still processing)
State MI still waiting acceptance
No info for WMR…(think I got a little too jumpy and checked to much lol)
I have two question
1. what is this transcript everyone is talking about? and can I have a link
2. if the recorded message says you should receive your refund within 21 days does that mean that the only thing holding us up is the 8863?I’m trying not to loose my mind here mainly because of my state i knew sunday about the hold up on the form.. but for some reason I haven’t been accepted (filed on the 12th) still awaiting acceptance… I called the treasury dept and can not get passed the automated bs… and it keeps telling me my AGI is wrong? is this happening to anyone else?
-
mongamari33
Yes I did file 8863
-
8863 filer
ok so all 8863’er called the number listed above to talk to a human…..this is my third time calling first 2 told me nothing..last man i spoke with looked into my account and said i had a projected DD date of 2/11!!!! I filed 1/18 “accepted” 1/25 WMR says processing both online/irs2go app and hotline. But this man said he seen a Project DD date of 2/11 . And of course i filed with 8863 form I did the ex 362 and said i was wondering about how much i owed …she tranfered me…man wasnt willing to look untill i bugged him to death! try it…and Good luck! also still cannot order either of my transcripts also i used TT and didnt use a 3rd party for fee’s i paid up front and had DD straight to my chase account!
-
Italiatouch
@mongamari: Did you file a 8863
-
mongamari33
So after calling the irs since the 30th i was finally able to get a rep (called the spanish line wait was 4mins) to actually admit that i indeed was accepted on the 26th and that my refund is actually being processed… he didnt give me a date and gave the 21 day bs line but im more at ease because for the first time the rep actually was able to pull up my stuff with my current address so im guessing this is good news to anyone accepted and processing… WE ARE ACTUALLY IN THE SYSTEM BEING PROCESSSED NOT JUST SITTING THERE!!
:)) good news?

Truly pissed
Filed 1/7 and accepted 1/23.. No info whatsoever on a DD date or anything and quite frankly, I give up. Here is the email I was just sent.
Dear TaxACT® Customer,
On Monday, January 28, 2013, the IRS announced that it has added Form 8863 to the list of delayed forms that cannot be submitted to the IRS until mid-February (an official date has not been determined). http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/List-of-IRS-forms-that-1040-filers-can-begin-filing-in-late-February-or-into-March-2013
Since the return you have submitted to TaxACT contained Form 8863, Education Credits (American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning Credits), and it was ACCEPTED by the IRS, the IRS will hold it until they are able to process Form 8863 in mid-February. You do not need to take any additional action at this time.
Where’s My Refund?
Since your return was accepted before the IRS announced the processing delay, Where’s My Refund will show that the return has been received. However, progress to the next phase, Refund Approved, will not occur before mid-February when the IRS can begin processing these returns. You will not be given a refund date during this waiting period due to the delayed processing of Form 8863. You do not need to contact the IRS about your return or take any other action.Thank you,

Hi! I also filed using 8863. I was accepted 1/25 and am still showing processing on wmr and on the hotline. I have been reading about ordering the transcripts, so I gave it a shot. It says my info is incorrect:/ We moved right after tax season last year, so when I put in our old address it logs in but says there is not a transcript available for 2012. Is this because I am still being “held”, or because they havent updated the address? Just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing
-
Brandy
Just one bar. It must have gotten processed after the nightly WMR update.
-
Me
Brandy – WMR status bar only has 3 bars: Received, Approved, Sent – so are you on BAR 1?
-
Brandy
Ok. The WMR says still processing??? Refund Hotline still processing. Mine is going straight to my personal bank. I called the number under contacts with ext 362. I was seriously so shocked. I had been so upset all week because of the IRS and then my school told me my finacial was being held for Pell review two days before disbursement. Just pray. I have been praying my head off so my husband said God had to do something because I was clogging up all his incoming lines LOL.

Brandy – Since you have a DD date for 2/6; what does WMR say? Also, what does the refund hotline tell you? Mine still says ACCEPTED since 1/25/13! Frustrated!!!!

Just wanted to let the 8863er my situation. I filed w/ TaxAct and accepted 1/26. Been trying to order return transcript all week but nothing. Magically I could today. I called, needing info about back federal tax offset. Rep confirmed processing, DD 2/6. She said they were sending a few through at a time. I bet I asked ten times if it really said a deposit date and she keep reassuring me. Have three students in the house so I was sure mine would be held up. Just thought it might ease nerves. I have been a nervous wreck all week.

OK, so I have read and I understand that their will be a delay for 1040 forms with the form 8863. The 1040 forms have more itemized deductions. But does that also qualify for the 1040ez or 1030A. The are simplier. This will clear some confusion for myself.
-

I was told by the IRS they will start processing the 8863 returns on the 11th. That 8863 form persons are in holding at the processing point till them. We will see but maybe it wont be like last year I had to wait several months because of a faulty flagging in the flag software.
-

well at least i did my state and its already accepted so the form 8863 does not effect your state thank god.My sons state(VT) got accepted at 3:55pm friday the 25th and he received direct deposit already on the 29th thats what i calllll fast lol..so at least i can look forward to my state to hold me over!!!

I filed with TT on 1/26 with a form 8863 and it just saying “pending” so I dont think its even been sent to the IRS at this point…but I guess pending is better than rejected so I guess I will take it. I just hope they end up fixing this issue sooner than mid- February!

I think this is a bunch of total bull. Why would it take them 2more weeks to fix this problem?Personally I think it’s all a excuse to bigger refunds back and push all of the quicker easier refunds through first that are also smaller in check size like my 2 sons 1040ez’s for example so they can get more interest on the money they do have in the bank.Makes no sence it would take so long. There going to have to shut this system down to fix it you would think???

TT just sent me this… finally, official word!
Important Information About Your Federal Tax Return
Process delay for higher education credits
Your return has been accepted, but on January 28 the IRS announced that all returns like yours, with higher education credits, will be delayed for processing until sometime in mid-February. The specific higher education credits include the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit, found on Form 8863.What this means
Don’t worry, your return is still accurate, and the IRS has accepted it. However, because it contains Form 8863, it will not be processed until the IRS is ready, and your federal refund will take a little longer than expected. This is a nationwide issue for everyone who is filing Form 8863, no matter who is preparing your taxes. What you can do
Keep watching your email. We will keep you updated with the latest information from the IRS about your return. -
Melissa
Fellow 8863’er here.
Boy this website is addicting! I filed mine on the 24th and was accepted on the 26th, and I cant access thw WMR site, it says they have no info on me, and when I called the 800 #, it said the same thing as others have heeard, its processing, 21 days, blah blah blah.. I too wish I would of known this before I field, I would of left off the 8863, and just filed it later on.. Ugh..
@ Lina, I sure hope that 2nd IRS person you talked to was right!I just wish the WMR site would at least show some kind of information..
So we wait….. -
Lina
Hi fellow 8863ers. First let me tell you that if you check WMR too many times in one day, it will basically block you and tell you nothing is found. It has been like that for years. I think it’s for your protection in case someone got your info. Also after speaking to one IRSer that didn’t even know there was a hold on 8863, I called back & the next lady said they should process 2/11. So by logic conclusion, those who got accepted last week ( w/o 8863 ) are getting DD on 2/1 we should get it a week after 2/11. Fingers crossed and we should all keep in touch and post when ours has been received.

@Crys, filed with H&R block on the 27th.. not sure if it was “accepted” beacause the IRS didnt start accepting the returns until the 30th,but I know a lady that works thre that entered all the returns in the system the next day so that when the IRS started to accept them on the 30th all of us that filed that day and before would already be sent to IRS…
but like I said before mine was showing through the IRS WMR site earlier .. now it isnt showing anymore .. who knows .. always something every year.. Im not goign to expect mine anytime before Feb 21st.. -
Crys
Mine was accepted on the 26th and I checked the WMR around 1pm and had the processing bar, just rechecked it and same thing. Called the number and it says they received it and 90% get their refunds in 21 days yadda yadda… had I known this was going to be an issue I would have filed without that form and amended later :( some of us rely on this money for things that we can’t afford any other time. Like I need a new laptop for school and I need to fix the car that’s broken down outside that I havent been able to fix for 4 months. Ugh…. I miss paying H&R Block ridiculously high fees to have my money super fast :/ Seems like it takes the IRS longer and longer every year

@Connie.. the same thing happened to me earlier .. return accepted .. but now cant find me or I entered my info wrong.. and I didnt file with the 8863 (whatever that is)

@Jackie 1/24. And it showed the tracker bar earlier today with only ACCEPTED filled in and the usual 21 day notice, now it is like years gone by where it shows nothing – like they don’t know you telling me I might have entered my information wrong. Just checked again, same thing. Perhaps this is like someone said, that they are doing them by hand or something. I should stop reading this site, LOL, I’m not all the concerned about it just makes me wonder, you know?

Connie- When did you get accepted? Mine says accepted but not acknowledged?? My current status:
2012 Federal Personal
TurboTax Electronic Postmark: January 25, 2013 10:04 PM PSTStatus: Pending
What this means:
It takes the IRS about 24 to 48 hours to process efiled returns. During that time, they are considered “pending.”
Next step:
Come back here later (we suggest waiting 24 hours), or check your email. We’ll notify you as soon as your return has been accepted.
What’s the current IRS status on processing returns?
Hide Efile History
Sent to Tax Authority | 01/27/13 01:16:17 PM
The filing has been transmitted to the agency and the agency has accepted (but not acknowledged) the filing. The system is now waiting for an acknowledgment message from the agency regarding the filing.Received by TurboTax | 01/28/13 06:27:06 PM
Your return has been received. You can expect to receive an email acknowledgment within 24-48 hours, indicating whether or not your e-file was accepted. -
Connie
*sigh* mine showed the Accepted bar a few hours ago on WMR, now they don’t find me. Wonder if they are holding it or kicking it back. Time will tell.

GAH2004
I contacted Turbo Tax to figure everything out and basically everyone who had been accepted early and approved, the IRS is holding on to those returns and if you were not accepted yet Turbo Tax will send your efiles out when issue is resolved.
This is some of the info I was emailed after speaking with a Turbo Tax rep.“Thanks for reaching out. It’s good to hear that your return was accepted. Because your return has the form 8863, IRS will start processing refunds for returns like yours starting mid February. Don’t worry if your tax return has this form, you don’t need to do anything on your end. After mid-February, you can expect to receive your refund in 21 days or less. You can read more here: http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Efile/IRS-Announces-January-30-Tax-Season-Opening–What-You-Need-to-Know/GEN85071.html?direct=true”
Hope this helps. -

Hi- I filed with Turbo Tax Friday Jan 25 at 10pm and my husband and I both had a 1098 and filed form 8863. My current status says in line for processing and a link under the message that read:
by TurboTaxBlogTeam January 30, 2013
What is the current IRS status on processing returns?Last updated 1/30
Congratulations of finishing your taxes!
We know how important your refund is to you. Good news, there are currently no processing delays for TurboTax customers.
The IRS started processing returns on January 30th. Returns will be processed in the order they were submitted and as soon as your return is accepted, we will notify you by email. This notification could take up to 24 hours.
The IRS estimates that you should receive your refund within 21 days of your return being accepted. The IRS issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days last year and expects the same results this year.
Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, you can track the status of your refund by logging into your MyTurboTax account. -
Sandy
I filed on 1/17 with a form 8863 and was accepted on 1/24. Before the site became unavailable this morning it had said that my return was received but still being processed. No date, just the 21 day statement.
-
Celeste
What does WMR say for those of you who filled with the 8863 form and was accepted? I filled on 24th and accepted 26th with the 8863. WMR says “We are sorry Where’s My Refund is currently unavailable. Please try again later or call the Refund Hotline at 1-800-829-1954.” I’m hoping since we’ve already been accepted and now on hold we’ll be the test batch so we’ll get it back faster then midfebuary.
-

Connie,
The delay is with any return that has Form 8863. And yes, the bug was discovered in the new system after they accepted some early returns. My guess is that it won’t take until mid-February for them to fix the issue, but they are no doubt trying to give themselves some wiggle room. :)
-
Connie
I keep reading this for 1040, is it any different than for 1040A? Heck, I’m happy to get a refund, so it’s OK if it comes later. I am guessing this bug was found after they started accepting them? Education Credit form has always hung up early filing, I’m surprised we were able to fill it out at all this early.

https://cisc.sbtpg.com/index.aspx here is the site that lets you check sbbt to see if they have deposited money there from some of the tax preparers
I have a account now….not sure if that is a good sign or if it is just part of the process… -

Hello, Im a 8863er I filed on 1/18/13 was accepted on 1/25/13. In 2009 I was a victim of ID theft and my taxes were delayed for 3 years from that point on. This year I was told I was able to file with no blocks now Im delayed because of school credits crazy. Let the waiting began.

this is what I found sunday on the tax wise blog
IRS EFile: Delayed Processing of Form 8863The IRS announced on an industry call with software vendors participating in the Controlled Launch this morning that they would start rejecting any e-file that contains Form 8863 (Education Credits) effective immediately.
What does this mean for returns that you have already sent to the EFC, but have not been sent to the IRS?
Any return that you have sent to the EFC that has NOT been transmitted to the IRS that contains Form 8863 will be rejected by the IRS with either Reject F1040-419 or F1040A-419 Form 8863 is not being accepted by Modernized e-File (MeF) at this time .
Will the EFC reject any e-file that contains Form 8863 to the ERO instead of sending it to the IRS?
No, we do not crack open the e-files at the EFC, we simply batch them and send them to the IRS. Any efiles already at the EFC will be transmitted to the IRS.
Will you be issuing an update to the US 1040 module to prevent the e-files from being created?
Yes, we are working on creating US 1040 v 4 that will prevent you from creating an e-file if the return contains Form 8863
What will happen to the e-files that the IRS has already accepted that contained Form 8863?
The accepted e-files that contain Form 8863 will be held for processing by the IRS until internal IRS programming can be made to accomodate the processing of these returns.
Will this impact when the taxpayer refunds are processed for any accepted returns that contain Form 8863?
Yes, the accepted returns are being held, which means they will not be sent to refund processing.
hope this helps a little

I don’t believe the IRS has decided what they are exactly going to do with the early filers who were accepted with Form 8863. It is likely they will hold them until they can process them.
There are over 3 million people who file using Form 8863 each year, so this has a huge impact. I doubt this will take long to fix.
-
mustanggrl
Filed 1/22 accepted 1/26.Form 8863 included in filing. I am a single mother of four, work full time and am a full time student. Just going to wait and see what happens, but I am hoping that those already accepted will be processed before mid Feb to test the fixes to the system. It seems to me that they identified a problem and once they think it is fixed they will use returns on hand to run through to ensure the fix is good before opening for those who have not been accepted yet.
-
Anonymous
That is a question that I can not answer, It could be stored as they fix the issue, I would assume that if they were going to be kicked back that would already be happening. I hope for all of you that it comes sooner than later because waiting is horrible :(
