My timeline:
1/23 filed
1/23 Accepted
1/23 Received and processing message
1/17 ID verify letter sent
1/21 Received ID letter and verified over phone
1/22 Updated to has been received and is being processed
1/25 Updated to 1541So, I called not 5 minutes ago. Wait time was only like 10 minutes. Very nice lady. Looked at my return. Saw that I had an “taxpayer protection” sent, my account was updated after I verified by phone.
Put me on hold, did some “research” and came back and said I have absolutely nothing holding my account, nothing that would be stopping me from getting a date, no correspondence other than the ID verify letter. She said 1541 is a generic code that means NOTHING AT ALL except that there is a delay. It DOES NOT mean audit, DOES NOT mean review, it means that for some reason it is delayed. Sure it could mean audit or review, but the code itself does not. In my case, it’s simply a backup of people, a line of people waiting on their deposit dates, and I am one of them in line. She said you are taken out of the processing line when flagged for ID verify, and put at the end of the processing line after uoi verify, so the wait starts over. So, 1541 people, rest easy, it literally could mean a whole bunch of different things, and it could literally mean nothing but waiting in line for a date.
THE LESSON LEARNED FROM THIS: DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYONE THAT INSISTS 1541 MUST MEAN A REVIEW OR AN AUDIT.
Anyway, nothing I can do but wait.
