@Shwa
I just think people should be realistic about the situation. People are checking where’s my refund 10 times a day for goodness sakes, and last year it was announced well in advance that if you are effected by the PATH act, your refunds will be delayed until after 15 February this year. There is no “back door” into an exception, there is no getting the part of the refund that is not effected by EIC or ACTC, and all of this other ridiculous stuff people are saying. Some of the questions are just silly, I mean, don’t people know about google? A lot of folks are upset and saying things like, “Give me my money” and other pathetic crap. Really?..we are lucky the Government allows some of the tax credits and need to be careful with this “my money” crying. Something tells me it won’t be around too much longer with Trump in office, but we will see. I have never followed these sites, where people are on egg shells about when they are getting their refund, it is sort of scary to see how ignorant some of them are, it’s no wonder. Not being negative, just a realist. I realize many need it and count on it, but everyone was warned well in advance. As far as some that are effected by the PATH act getting their refund early, it is not happening. The IRS would be violating the law. And as stated, it is fairly simple to filter out who is effected by the law, it’s right on the 1040. I just can’t stand ignorant people.

We at this site have not been able to verify anyone getting a DDD with the PATH credits, I dont believe anyone has received a DDD and will not until after 2/15

I had one bar yesterday and now I have the PATH Act Message. I’m not looking for my refund until after the 15th. It clearly states on their website that they are required by law to hold your refund. I’ve waited all year what is another couple weeks? I’m happy regardless!
I’m blessed, not stressed!

I’m going to have to agree with Jeff here. He may have been harsh, but he speaks the truth. A law is a law is a law, and if there ever were some sort of error that allowed someone to receive their refund ahead of schedule, it would likely be SO rare it wouldn’t even be worth discussing.
However, this is a forum where people discuss things, in this case, tax things. We can all drive ourselves crazy if we like, Jeff.

And I am not trolling, just trying to help people with the real information and not just what they may want to hear. I guess desperation makes people angry at someone that is telling them the truth. It’s just pathetic how many people say they know what the law says, but can’t stay off of these sites and want hope that they will get their refund hoping it…falls through the cracks. There are hundreds of people on these sites that are giving false hope..they talked to IRS, they know someone that has kids and got their refund…(so what, that is irrelevant if you know the correct rules). I am sorry, but I get angry at people telling lies and/or putting out false information leading these desperate people on.

People have said…that’s my point, people are saying lies and giving others false hope. I am not just talking about this site, but facebook as well. I don’t need a lecture on the rules, I am being honest, that’s all. You do people no service when you aren’t honest with them or give false information. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I bet not one person will be able to confirm that they were affected by PATH and received their refund..not one. I have noticed most don’t know what credits they received because they did not do their taxes and aren’t sure. Anyway, it is what it is.

@Jeff I believe you are mistaken and are basing your arguments on a statement that doesn’t exist. NO ONE is saying they got their DD’s. We are saying they got DDD’s and NOT the PATH Act Message.
I’ll repeat. People have said they have gotten direct deposit dates of 2/1, and they have the earned income credit and additional child tax credit. I hope you understand now.
And again… WE KNOW ABOUT THE FREAKING LAW ALREADY LOL.

No one will get their refund prior to 15 February if they received the earned income credit or the additional child tax credit…period. Not the child tax credit, the additional child tax credit, google it and learn about it. People are losing their every loving minds on here. What is so difficult about this? If you have the PATH message, you will not get your refund early, damn people. Folks saying they got their refund and received the PATH message are telling a lie. There are some people that are posted for a refund and THINK they were effected by PATH because they think they received EIC or ACTC…they did not do their taxes and don’t have a clue. They are providing false hope to these desperate people on here and it’s pitiful. The IRS can screen the folks that received the credits very easily. Every single tax payer has to file a 1040..the filters screen out the 1040s that have these credits on the particular item number on the 1040. Google it and you will find out. Bottom line..gotta wait until after 15 February. If you had the tax prep fees taken out of your refund, it will take longer for you than those of us that paid for it up front to avoid the middle man of the other bank (Sbbt). It is so easy to educate yourself on these matters. Reading about these people checking 10 times a day and hoping that they will fall through the cracks is getting too silly.

That sounds awful, Mizu. I’m sorry that happened to you.
I will try to be patient and grateful that at least my refund wasn’t stolen!

Hello,
I filed 1/24 at around 9 pm. Federal accepted around 10 pm. The state accepted on 1/26. I had 1 bar from 1/25 until 1/28. Now I have the Path Act generic message. Not worried, because due to the prior warning, I see that this is a new law, and that it protects people who were victims of ID theft. I know how that feels because I had tax fraud ID theft done to me. It’s scary to find out that someone filed a false tax return in your name in the prior year. When I got this information, I was an emotional wreck. I CRIED on the phone with the IRS and had to contact the SSA and the FTC. It was very scary. I now have to file with a special pin every year. If this is what they have to do to protect us from fraud and theft then I welcome it. It is a good thing for us in the long run. The wait sucks, but it’s good. -

I have the correct one of my errands as well LOL. I have prepared for 20 years I’ve helped other people prepare for the past 12 years and I’ve been on I got my refund for about three. And I help answer questions all year. I’m not one of those people that just disappear after they get their refunds.

CTC..child tax credit; ACTC..Additional Child Tax Credit. If you receive CTC, and no EIC (Earned Income Credit..which normally means you make too much) then you aren’t affected by the law. Some people that are saying they receive their refunds only got CTC and they aren’t affected by the law. There are many people that don’t even know they have EIC or ACTC and asking what it is. SO, the people saying they got their refunds are lieing or they weren’t affected by the law and don’t even know what they are talking about. It is what it is…period. I have been doing my taxes and my daughters’ taxes for many years and I’m not degrading anyone for not understanding the process/rules/meaning, but once again, if you fall into the category of receiving the mentioned credits, you WILL NOT get your money prior to 15 February. It’s simple for IRS to know who received these credit, it is certain line items on the 1040s. It is a shame people can’t take things for what they are, all the wishful thinking in the world won’t change it. Just don’t think you may get this early and put yourself in a bind. If you paid for your refund using your refund on Turbo Tax or another tax site, it will be held up because it has to go to the other bank to have the funds withdrawn, which holds up the process, this is exactly why I paid for mine with a credit card. Obviously, the people that go it free won’t have the “middle man” of the bank, so they should get their refunds closer to the 15th.
