Who has Filed already?
Who will file Soon?
Who isn’t in a rush?
I haven’t filed yet, not in a rush but I will file as soon as I receive my last W2. Not chasing the FB groups like last year lol

Fill out the amended form as soon as you get the money.February 12, 2018 at 11:53 pm #4214939
I have a question. I have already filed my return on 1/26 and it was accepted same day. A few days later, I got the PATH message which is still there as of today.
My question is: Does IRS immediately compare your w2 and other source of income forms to your return once they’ve received it and processing has started?
I’ve been told by multiple people and have read multiple forums/articles/web sites that IRS does NOT compare w2’s and other sources of income until AFTER refund has been sent; like after tax season because of how extremely busy they are and that they are required to send refunds out as quickly as possible (in certain cases, after PATH is lifted)
The reason I’m asking is because I screwed up on my wages. For example I put $12000 instead of $13000 (that’s not the actual amount, it’s just an example) because I filed my taxes online via iPhone. I claimed Head of Household as well as both EIC/ACTC credits. I’m also anticipating a refund.
Do I need to contact them or will they contact me to resolve this? Or.. will they approve it and catch it later? Do I need to file an amended form? If so, do I file the form now or afterwards?
I have been filing the same way for 8 years — same name, same address, same credits, same employer, same everything. I’ve never screwed up like this before and I’m freaking out!
I appreciate any info/advice given! Thank you!!February 12, 2018 at 10:56 pm #4214915

• Where’s My Refund? on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go mobile app remains the best way to check the status of a refund. Where’s My Refund? will be updated with projected deposit dates for most early EITC and ACTC refund filers on February 17. These taxpayers will not see a refund date on Where’s My Refund? or through their software packages until then. The IRS, tax preparers and tax software will not have additional information on refund dates, so these taxpayers should not contact or call them about refunds before the end of February.February 12, 2018 at 10:26 pm #4214864
Need my money
@ anyone reading. Will WMR update Wednesday for us eitc & actc filers,or Saturday only?February 12, 2018 at 10:26 pm #4214862
@dgk it could be that one of them got resequenced and can also mean they just haven’t got to it or it could’ve been randomly selected for reviewFebruary 12, 2018 at 10:10 pm #4214846
Hey everyone! I’ve just been lurking here over the last week or so. But now I have a question. I helped 2 of my friends file their taxes on 2/7 both were accepted the same day just about 12 hours apart. Both have eic & actc so they were expecting the path message until at least the 15th. My concern is that only one of them has updated to the path message, the other is sitting on one bar still with tt 152. Does anyone else have the same issue? They’re just worried because it hasn’t updated yet & it updated really quickly for them last year.February 12, 2018 at 9:49 pm #4214826
PATH message update 02/10
If I go by what happened last year, I filed on 02/02, accepted the same date. On WMR, I went to 2 bars and nothing else. TurboTax STILL has never updated that I received my refund even though I did on 02/22. I received state refund on 02/13.
Last year was the first year that I didn’t get the DD date until AFTER we already had our refund in the bank. When it went to 2 bars, it was just a watching and waiting game. I had no idea when it was going in there. Well like I said I found out when I was getting the refund AFTER we had already got it.
We aren’t in a rush this year well not too much of a rush. Our bills are taken care of until March, I am just wanting to get my CC paid off because I am working on my credit score. Other than that, when I get anymore information I will post it just like I did last year.
If by some chance, it gets crazy or in the strange case we get something early I will let everyone know.
Yes, we got EITC.My kids are grown and out of the home so I don’t get the big whopping tax checks anymore. However I am thankful and appreciative of what we do get back from the IRS. It allows us to get a few things we need and do a few things we need to get done, and Momma is getting her a new phone this time around. Nexus 6, but its new to me.
I ramble, sorry LOL. Have a good week guys and don’t stress too hard.February 12, 2018 at 8:50 pm #4214790
What do you mean only 3k? Jfc that’s a lot. Whatever though forget I said anything, good lord.February 12, 2018 at 8:44 pm #4214781
filed on the 1/20 accepted on 1/22
have the path message
last year i never got the path message. and got my refund on the 21st. this year hoping to get it on the 20th :)February 12, 2018 at 8:18 pm #4214760
Hi All! I have read through looking for an answer or possible explanation, and I am hoping i can get some answers.
My partner and I filed (Separate) on 01/19 and were accepted. This is the first year (in almost 8) that we are getting a refund.I was in a pretty bad car accident and have been out of work on FMLA since July, so we actually qualified for a refund this year.
I did have an Earned Income Tax Credit, but it wasn’t very much (if that helps)
For about a week we both had a status bar with the first section shaded in, and it was stuck on ‘Return Recieved’. For the last 10 days it has said that:
“Your tax return is still being processed.
A refund date will be provided when available.
For refund information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day.”
It looks like we are in the same boat as a few other people. But I guess I was just looking for some confirmation.
Also, What is PATH, and how do I know if it affects me?
Thank y’all so much, and I appreciate any answers y’all are able to provide.February 12, 2018 at 8:06 pm #4214755
FYI, for all of you insisting you are speaking to IRS employees. I had issues with ID verify last year. I can say from experience that these IRS employees everyone is speaking to are just temporary, seasonal employees, following an algorithm on a computer. These are not knowledgeable IRS tax experts. These are not fully trained employees of the federal government with years of tax preparation experience. These people are temporary, seasonal employees. They sit in front of a computer screen, when you give them a code, they look the code up, and repeat back to you the same information you can obtain from google at home.
Last year, I had to ID verify and I called 4 different times. One employee told me I was wrong, I didn’t have to ID verify. I called back a few days later, another one said I needed to wait for my letter. Yet another call a few days later and I was told my letter was never sent and they would send another letter. A few days later, one nice lady told me she was going to ask me questions on a computer screen, my answer to one question would take her to another question to ask me depending on my answer to the previous question. 6 questions later, I finally had a straight answer.
These people aren’t bad, they are just stuck answering the same questions all day every day. I would not be surprised if they don’t even look up your info and just regurgitate the same answer they gave the last person to ask the same question you did.February 12, 2018 at 7:59 pm #4214750
Where are you getting your MIS-information? The PATH act applies to those who claim the EITC or the ACTC or both. It’s either or but it doesn’t have to be both. I claim the EITC not the ACTC and my wife and I still fall under the PATH act even tho our EITC is only $88.
As far as the refunds go…Approvals/releases for PATHERS will start on or after 2/15 and DD’s will start on or after the 20th. Last year my refund was deposited to my Netspend card the evening of the 20th before the WMR ever moved off the second bar.
That “27th” date is a default date the IRS gives them to stop people from tying up the phone lines with a ton of stupid questions.February 12, 2018 at 7:15 pm #4214716
If you look on the IRS website they say EIC ”OR” ACTC. You just copy and pasted an article from a news website, not the IRS.February 12, 2018 at 7:12 pm #4214713
People like me Lance???
How do you know if your refund might be affected?
If you file your tax return before mid-February, are due a refund, and claim both the EITC and the ACTC, your refund could be affected. But don’t wait to file if you are ready to file. While the IRS cannot release your refund before Feb. 27, they still expect to issue most refunds in 21 days or less.
In fact, the IRS issues nine out of 10 refunds within 21 days. Check “Where’s My Refund?” or download the IRS2Go Mobile App and check the current status of your refund.February 12, 2018 at 7:11 pm #4214708February 12, 2018 at 6:30 pm #4214684
I have been cracking up all day on the comments… I received my refund on the 17th last year before the DDD actually updated on WM. I’m sure I was not the only one that this happened too. Relax there will be refunds received on the 15th in some accounts and so on. The IRS stated that Mid-Feb they will start to produce refunds, stop calling for what WE already know from last year. Some will get refunds by Friday and they will not update until they actually have funds in their accounts. The others will follow the next week!February 12, 2018 at 6:23 pm #4214680
@lance u got many fans like beyonce lol. Some love u some hate u but they can’t get you off their minds lol. Their mad cuz you’re correct lolFebruary 12, 2018 at 6:21 pm #4214675
I have been a true believer of that since I saw the path msg. Thursday and Saturday will tell.February 12, 2018 at 6:17 pm #4214671
@K girl it’s an advance if it was only 3k. Either that or he made extra moneyFebruary 12, 2018 at 6:13 pm #4214665
I called Jackson Hewitt earlier and lady wasn’t very nice because my service was bad but said the irs will be releasing funds Wed for us pathers let’s see how true it isFebruary 12, 2018 at 5:51 pm #4214641
Lance is less than a god but more than a man. Lance is right DEAL WITH IT!February 12, 2018 at 5:47 pm #4214636
you’re going to have to post some proof because no one in here will believe an early refund with those credits when everything else says explicitly the opposite of that.February 12, 2018 at 5:44 pm #4214626
storyFebruary 12, 2018 at 5:44 pm #4214624
No he didnt,end of soryFebruary 12, 2018 at 5:42 pm #4214622
No he definitely got ACTC because he received almost $3000 when he usually only gets around $1000 without it. And it’s not an advance…..February 12, 2018 at 5:34 pm #4214613
Glitch in WMR as it is not pulling up my info saying ‘incorrect information’. I called the IRS line to get refund status and my PATH message is still waiting there. Good news. Now back to the waiting game.February 12, 2018 at 4:58 pm #4214526
@momjess Breathe!!! LolFebruary 12, 2018 at 4:34 pm #4214550
I think the path is pretty much set , last year I filed on 1/29 and I got my taxes 2/22 at 3 pm even with the offset I had , so Im sitting tight and properly car shopping until next week. No worries its coming .February 12, 2018 at 4:32 pm #4214546
Was PATH in place last year? I filed same time last year without any issues. I do have a IRS pin but that’s all. I got my money back before the 21 days was up and this year I filed and have the general we received your return statement. So will it update to this PATH message?
Anyway, my strategy this tax season is to only check wmr every 2 days after the 17th and check here for you guys updates. I’m anxious to take my maternity leave from work but don’t want to drive myself crazy for 21 daysFebruary 12, 2018 at 4:25 pm #4214539
@dani check your transcripts to see if your amount changed maybe that’s the problemFebruary 12, 2018 at 4:23 pm #4214534
your brother was either denied actc or he received a tax advancedFebruary 12, 2018 at 4:21 pm #4214529
@momjess Breathe honey breathe lolFebruary 12, 2018 at 4:10 pm #4214506
Ok so just to know that it’s treatment, I just called the irs 1040 line where the rep gave me the phone number for tax advocate but stated that a tax advocate can’t help until after the 15th.
So I called anyway just to see what would happened. They answer the phone immediately so that was a plus lol. But the first reported for advocate had a nasty attitude and said no tax advocate are taking cases until after the 15th and do I have something else I want help with because that’s the end of story. I asked if she had a repo that can talk nicer with a better attitude and she hung up on me lmao.
So I called back and got a nice old lady who talked soooo slow lol. She took my ssn just to see if she could help me at all. Placed me on a 2 minute hold and stated that because of the path act no hardship can be filed until the 27th even if I called back on the 15th but that my refund is fully processed and waiting for the release date. If you don’t receive by that date you can file but it will be available in your account by that date.
So basically she just told me I have no issues with My Refund and it be deposited before thatFebruary 12, 2018 at 3:35 pm #4214439
I have never had that problem myself, but seen a few other people post the same issue as yourselfFebruary 12, 2018 at 3:34 pm #4214436
My brother told me that he got his refund 2/9 and he claimed ACTC….so wtf.February 12, 2018 at 3:30 pm #4214431
Thank You @Jimbo. I double checked with TT to ensured that everything was correct, still having the same issue.
@lance, have you come across an instance where WMR states that info is incorrect
(amount, fie status etc.)
I am just curious as my status (even though it is PATH) has always been available to view.February 12, 2018 at 3:20 pm #4214422
Just got a letter from the IRS.
Opened it ….. Notice CP301.
Which is merely the IRS thanking me for using their online service.
Whew!February 12, 2018 at 3:17 pm #4214414
So I was just told that we can’t even file for a hardship before the 15th! The irs really won’t let up on holding our money to collect interest on it lol. That’s crazy. So for the lady that said she was facing an eviction can’t even call for a tax advocate. That saddens me.February 12, 2018 at 3:14 pm #4214406
I love Lance. that is all…..he has made waiting bearable:)February 12, 2018 at 2:50 pm #4214372
Not sure where people like munnymunny get their informationFebruary 12, 2018 at 2:47 pm #4214364
@Skittlez is right. the 27th is more of a late placeholder date to keep people from calling them and slowing up the process.
If they told you the 22nd or 23rd and you don’t get it on that exact date (because of your bank most likely) you’re probably going to call them trying to figure out what happened.February 12, 2018 at 2:46 pm #4214361
“PATH Act delayed refunds for some filers. By law, the IRS cannot issue refunds for people claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) before mid-February 2018”February 12, 2018 at 2:43 pm #4214353
The PATH applies to people who claim both EIC & ACTC, if you only claim EIC you will in fact see it even have already gotten DDDFebruary 12, 2018 at 2:42 pm #4214351
@Dani : I’d double check the information you entered. Even after you receive your refund, WMR should recognize your info.February 12, 2018 at 2:28 pm #4214328
Hello, I tried to check for an update today. Saying that the info does not match (amount, file status & SS) . Has that happen to anyone else? I am kinda worried. I am a weekly with EITCFebruary 12, 2018 at 1:53 pm #4214297
@Phickdiva what difference does it make the rep was black or that it was 7 a.m. black girls rock . Miss yourself with the insecurity. All I’m saying is that the bull crapping rep told you a bull crapping lie that is on there bull crapped website. We will all get refunds starting next week not starting on the 27th. They tell you that so that you will stop blowing up their phone lines asking about the refund dates. So if you believe that it will start on the 27th then surprise yourself when you see half of us stating that we got our refunds next week.February 12, 2018 at 1:45 pm #4214288
AC I have the same issue same tax topic since day one it’s processing if you file a complete return etc…topic 152 no change can only order on phone not online.February 12, 2018 at 1:42 pm #4214284
The TT date is an estimate. They show the estimated refund date; it is by no means a DDD.February 12, 2018 at 1:29 pm #4214261
One bar, Tax topic 152. EIC/ACTC, other than that, basic return.
Cannot get transcripts – error when I try says information is wrong.
Anyone having a similar issue? I need my money and am hoping they come through soon. This PATH crap is ridiculous.
