Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2019?

The IRS begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 28, 2019.  According to the IRS, Where’s My Refund tool is the best way to check the status of your tax refund.

When Can You File Taxes in 2019?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2019.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2019 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2019 tax season (2018 tax year) have been updated with 2019 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@Denise K: So that I’m understanding, did you file your injured spouse form when you filed your original fund, or did you fax it after the refund was taken?

@Denise K: So they took the refund and you applied for injured spouse, when did you submit the IS form? Yes, injured spouse checks will be mailed unless you file the IS form when you file your original return. Checks are posted on Fridays.

    FINALLY got DDD of 4/17!

    I e-filed on 2/13.
    Bars missing around 2/23.
Called around 3/7 and IRS says that it is a hold on my return. Did not say what for but to allow 45 days. Ordered multiple transcripts cycle code 20191005 and 570
    hold.
On 3/16 I got a TA. She says it was a wage verification hold. My information from W2 was “not matching what employer reported” which is a lie! I think they want you to send in proof because you have child credits. I got my HR director to write a letter on company head with details about how much I made and federal withholding and faxed it to her on 3/28. TA said she would call me 4/29 with update. My dad had similar issue but not wage issue and filed after me and got his return 4/12. So I said let me call IRS and see what’s up…FUNDS SET TO BE SENT 4-17 and WMR FINALLY SHOWS BARS WITH SAME DDD! Hope my scenario will help someone. I advise getting a TA so they can see what the hold is and if u have to send in anything and you should have your money within 3-4 weeks after speaking with them! Good luck

@Dambyrds: I know, and I believe a lot of this has been because of the Irs being behind. I have never honestly seen a year like this, where people have been processing so long for injured spouse, amended and especially id verify. Last year, around this time, the few people left were those who had filed later, had full blown reviews or audits. Its ridiculous.

@Walt: With those transcripts being blank, you are not processing as they were not either. User @BrokeBeyondPissed had to do another verify and is now back in processing. You might scroll back and look at their situation, because it is very similar to yours. You will need to call and make sure that your id verify was accepted, and if not, do another one and make sure that they get it right into processing.

@OverIt: I wish you much luck this third time! You lost already 2.5 months… but your refund is still on my mind. I think there is something wrong with the form – I don’t think they would send it back twice if not. I’m sure you looked the form over many times to see if there is a lil check mark in a lil box that doesn’t belong there (maybe they request ‘Preparers’ signature bc preparer has a check mark?). To be on the safe side, I would maybe consider the original IRS 1040 and fill all in (idk if you paid fees for your return to be prepared). And don’t forget to mail it out tomorrow via certified mail so you have proof, since it is the last day to have a paper return mailed, postmarked.

846 code dated 3-8, processing date 3-18 return due date and 806 code is apr 15.

I think we will get a check, does this mean it’s been mailed ?

I have a quick question- not sure if anyone is in same boat. I paper filed 3/20. Accepted 4/3. Today I went to no bars, tax return is still processing and code 152. I was tho, able to order my 2018 account and return transcripts. Problem is, the only way I could order my transcripts was with my old address, not the new one on my return. Could they have just made a mistake and not changed my address? I have never been able to order a transcript without getting a ddd a few days later. (I had to paper file cuz u didn’t get my pin after they said they sent it 3 times!). Sigh! Thanks for any comments or ideas on what’s going on. Oh also- I can’t look at the transcripts online as I have no credit accounts for them to verify me by! Thanks so much guys!

Ugghh! I’m still waiting for my ddd or even an update on WMR. I passed the id verification over the phone on March 6 and was told the hold was lifted. I was given the generic “wait 9 weeks till your refund blah blah” message.
I e-filed and was accepted on Jan 30th. I already received my state refund on Feb 26.
My transcripts keep coming in the mail blank with an “as of date 4/01/19. I cannot view them online and I never received any letters in the mail, only to id verify.

Shouldn’t I update to a ddd soon? Should I re-file again since it says “no record of return”? I have the email from the IRS saying it was accepted.

Am I the only one that has the “still being processed” message.

I have had that since the day I filed, and it never changed. I still have my refund amount on the side.

@OverIt: I thought so, no problem. I’m curious, looked at the instructions for the 1040 signature – it says:
    Sign Your Return
Form 1040 isn’t considered a valid return unless you sign it. If you are filing a
joint return, your spouse also must sign.
If your spouse can’t sign the return, see
Pub. 501. Be sure to date your return
and enter your occupation(s). If you
have someone prepare your return, you
are still responsible for the correctness
of the return. If your return is signed by
a representative for you, you must have
a power of attorney attached that specifically authorizes the representative to
sign your return. To do this, you can use
    Form 2848.

Is this maybe pertaining to your return?
And yes, sometimes it is considered on forms to sign in blue ink, so that it does not look like a copy.

@Zach: checks are mailed out on Friday and if it was sent out the 5th, You definitely should have seen something by now. I would give it another few days just in case it was mailed yesterday and if you don’t see something by Wednesday I would request a trace be put on the check. Not sure why they can’t just give you a straight answer instead of a run around.

I haven’t gone threw the process of requesting our transcripts yet. But my wife and I have had a TA working our claim for three weeks now. She told us on March 29th that our claim had been processed and manually set for the funds to be released. Then she called my wife on April 8th and informed her a check was mailed out on Friday April 5th. Mail just came again today and nothing and no direct deposit. We originally E-filed and accepted 2/4. Mailed IS form and recieved 3/4, Processed and completed 3/29. And I’ve called every other day for an update since 3/29 and everyone I speak with tells me the funds were released the day before. I’ve now been given three different dates as to when our funds have been released. Last guy I talked to wasn’t amused when I asked him if I was getting 3x the return now?

@DDDapproved: Netspend releases as soon as they are notified by the treasury. We have had people getting their 846 refund code in the morning and received their refund in their Netspend that evening. Type a search in the comments for Netspend or check out our bank forum in the sidebar. Netspend is one of the fastest cards to see your refund if you’re not paying fees out of it.

@DDDapproved: Not sure about that; I also have Bancorp and I have a DDD for 4/16/19 and I ALWAYS get my paychecks/other deposits early by 2 days; so far nothing; but tonight will tell if that is the actual case. So it is prob NOT Bancorp and may actually be IRS. good luck you got yours so much earlier! whoot whoot

@Mally: Bancorp NetSpend the thing is I never received a DD a whole week early given I’m a weekly and been for years. My DDD has always been for Thursday’s however not only wmr updated this morning with a DDD for 4/17/19 but something told me to check my bank account and seen my DD and little joke God played on me because he posted it to my account yesterday 4/12 so NetSpend say so I’m guessing I’m daily update now because wmr definitely just stated the reg we received your tax message and clearly its been sitting in my account since yesterday. I mean even with NetSpend you get your funds 2 days early but never a week so my conclusion has to be IRS themselves.

@CA Mom: Sorry that you’re experiencing this issue. I am in the same boat. And my boss was the same way (former employer now). Call and get a TA. I can almost guarantee they will request the last copy of his paycheck stub and his W2. I had to send the same thing in to the IrS and SSA. Once this happened My as of date pushed out to 4/22. My TA doesn’t call me again until 4/23. But he said he had everything the IrS requested. I hope it works for all of us. Good luck.

Well, was hoping to update today (duh, who isn’t). I got a CP74 letter dated 3/4 that said I should get my refund within 6 weeks, unless there was anything else wrong with my return. The 6 weeks is up on 4/15, which is this Mon. And I would have hoped that if there was anything else up that I would have gotten a letter by now, but we all know how that goes, lol.

So yeah…I’m going to call probably Tues and see what’s up. I’ll let everyone know what is said and all that.

Hi everyone! So I have been reading everyone’s posts each night like religiously for the last 2 months, hoping to make some kind of sense out of this crazy year. But now I’m on my last nerve so any help or insight or advice would be so helpful. Ok here it goes…
    2/21 efiled/accepted within 20 mins
3/4 WMR changed to still processing. I also still have TT152 and can see all my info on the left, including refund amount.
3/8 Called IRS and was put in hold 3 times by rep so she could look at my account. Was told that she didnt see anything and it could be a 45 day hold. But they didnt need anything from me. Just to sit and wait.
3/12 I was finally able to see my online transcript. Showed as of date 3/18, cycle code 20191102 date 4/1, have 806, 766 and 768 with date 4/15, had 570 date 4/1. All the credit amounts look correct.
    3/19 transcript updated with 971 date 4/8
4/5 as of date went from 3/18 to 4/22
4/9 received letter 2645C in the mail addressed to both me and hubby saying they received something? And need 60 days more to work account. We didn’t send anything to them so not sure what that’s about.
4/11 hubby and I got separate letters cp05 dated 4/8.

I was able to login to my ssa account and my schedule c income posted to that account end of march. Hubby doesnt have ssa account. He had 1 W2 and the owner shut down business last year so not sure if he did his taxes. He was the type of boss you had to stay on top of your hours and wages or he would pull a fast one and forget this or that. Have 3 little kidos and nothing has changed for us in the last 3 yrs. Any thoughts on what the hold up is, or how much longer we r looking at? Already had to postpone family vacay and our bills are turning pink and yellow. Thanks guys!

    Reply
  72. Lcglass100

Okay guys! So I called back to talk to someone on both of my refunds. 2017 and for this year. It’s been way past the 9-11 week mark from when I electronically filed and from when they received and started processing. I was told on 2017 taxes that I was under 45 day review and that ended yesterday. They told me I should know something then or an update on transcripts- well
Nothing and nothing updated for this years either. The guy from the IRS I talked with said that he put in a referral to the people who are working my cases and they have 30 days from yesterday to issue refund on both 2017 & 2018. He said for some reason they started working my cases and have just stopped? I haven’t received any letters, he says it doesn’t look like I need to do any type verification. Just wondering if anyone has experienced something like this? He said since he put in the referral they HAVE TOO get this resolved or their jobs are on the line and I should receive refund before the 30 days! Anyone dealt with something like this? He was very very helpful- almost like he was my TA

@Undauntedbeauty: it is total bs. Fax in a 911 form and see what an actual ta says. If nothing else, they can look into the return and give you an idea what’s going on.

@Sheila_33: Thank you. I tried getting a TA but she said since I had the ID Verify they aren’t allowed to touch those. I think that’s BS though.

@Sheila_33: No. I told them best time to call was 11 to 3. So we’ll see.

@Marge: they moved last week. But not today. I do have a Ta and got it last week so that’s where I think it went from 4/1 to 4/22. TA said this process can take about 45 days. Geesh. I’ve been waiting since 2/15. And I was just thrown into a random review. No I’d verify

@Peanut: I’m not finding it but I think you may be able to check another way. Go to irs.gov tax account and log in just like you do when you log in to view your transcripts but it will take you to your tax account. Check there and see if there is any activity like a debt being paid.

Here’s a quick update for everyone who’s interested.. I filed January 24th,got accepted January 25th, refund got rejected by my bank on February 27th,and my refund got returned to the irs. It took 3 weeks for the irs to receive my refund (March 18th) Iwas put under review. I was told it would take 8-10 weeks from that date to receive my refund so I got a TA. My TA wasn’t very helpful with explaining the process to me but I guess he did what was needed because I called today to get an update and finally got a straight forward answer. He said my refund was released and will be mailed out next Friday! Almost at the end of this long hard journey and I appreciate everyone’s help. I’ll still continue to update and I’ll also be donating this year.🙂

    Horror update:
Sooo I called the IRS back only to find out that the verification I did online back on February 20 didn’t cross over to their system. So loooonnnng story short I had to re-verify (thank God I kept the letter) and the rep said he released the hold and put it back into processing. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed. Keep you posted

@Sheila_33: If had an offset to the irs would that show up on this transcript cycle or the next?
