IRS e-file Refund Cycle Chart for 2018 with Direct Deposit dates

UPDATED AUGUST 2017:  IRS e-file Refund Cycle Chart for 2018 with Direct Deposit dates provided below are based on filing and transmitting as early as January 2, 2018. This has not been and will not be published by the IRS.  The IRS now says most refunds will be issued within 21 days of your return being accepted.  This general estimate doesn’t satisfy everyone and now many independent sites try to estimate dates when refunds will be sent.

The IRS e-file Refund Cycle Chart for 2018 with Direct Deposit and Check dates are only estimates by various website owners.  It might give you a good idea, but never bank on it because many issues arise and delay tax refunds. When will tax season open? As each year comes to a close and the next tax filing season approaches, early tax filers start to think and ask the big question. When will I get my tax refund? The estimated 2018 IRS Refund Cycle Chart can now be found at countless websites for the 2018 tax season. Be cautious though, the charts you find are not “official” and the dates when you should expect to receive your refund will not all be the same. Why? The official IRS Refund Cycle Chart published by the IRS is no more. Since they stopped publishing an official refund cycle chart, various independent versions are now created each year based on estimates and prior year trends.

There are slightly different versions of the tax refund schedules scattered across countless websites to help tax refund hunters track down that magic date. These refund cycle charts will crop up more and more as the year comes to a close. Most are just guesstimates, some even educated guesses. Many times the refund charts you find are just duplicates of the prior year with slightly adjusted dates.

There are various tax situations for every taxpayer and this is why prediction as to when you will get your tax refund can be difficult; and, every year there will be glitches with one process or another at the IRS which could delay your refund. Since an official IRS refund calendar is a thing of the past, when taxpayers can expect to receive their tax refund in 2018 remains a mystic idea. This is likely why the IRS now firmly sticks to a general statement to everyone that “your tax refund should arrive within 21 days”.

We stress to you that pre-spending those beloved refunds is playing with fire, wait for that direct deposit to hit in 2018! IGMR will post any estimated tax refund charts here that we find credible or to have plausible timeframes.

2014 IRS e-file Refund Cycle Chart

We have said goodbye to the former refund cycle chart in replacement of a standard “21 days” response from the IRS.

Remember this?  The IRS Refund Cycle Chart was eliminated in 2012 and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication.  We likely will not see a 2014 IRS e-file refund cycle chart and be forced to depend upon the data that the Where’s My Refund (WMR) tool decides to spit out. There are several sites that seem to have generated their own refund cycle chart based on assumption of processing schedules; but as we have learned, it’s hard to predict. Below are links to some of those sites and their predictions.  Please remember, these are predictions and you should never rely upon such as definite availability of your tax refund. IRS e-file Refund Cycle Chart for 2014 with Direct Deposit and Check dates provided below are based on filing and transmitting as early as January 10, 2014 with some tax preparers, but with respect to IRS opening delay and it’s announcement here that it could begin ACCEPTING returns on January 28, 2014, but as late as February 4, 2014.

I filed my taxes on april 15th. the reason I had waited till the last minute was because 1 I was waiting for a 1099 from ssa and then my husband passed away unexspectedly on march 16th so I had to take care of of his arragements. and I filed through h&r block online. Well I filed married joint and like we always did and from what I understood was that because he was alive all of 2016 I wasnt to report his death until I filed next years taxes. well needless to say I still have yet to receive my refund because I guess ssa reported his death to the irs and my tax return was booted out of there system. so the irs tax advocates had to step in to get the irs to fix all there mistakes.

@Bookie: yes I filed on the first day they opened for e-file and I was getting the same thing. I finally called the IRS they said they had an issue of identify theft under my account which they couldn’t notify me until the end of the season just Incase. I have them all my info they needed and my refund finally will be released in 2 days. Took them 3 weeks to complete the process from when I gave them my info but finally getting it released too my bank is better then still waiting. Call in and ask they might have gotten your old address mixed up with your new and sent a letter to a wrong address instead. Keep at them you’ll get it done and completed.

I filed by h and block online on the 15th where’s my refund app said processing until the feb 24th then it said refund approved. Said I will get my refund to my bank by March 1st. I had it loaded on to a walmart money card. I got my state refund before federal. That was suppose to go on my card to but they said they Mailed it. Reason being was the offset it for 78.00 and sent me a check for the rest. So…Im waiting now…for federal to hit my card. This is the longest it has ever taken me to get a tax refund!! I claimed my two kids. So had the EIC credit. I was stressing cause it took so look long.

Mine was received the 15th, approved the 18th, and the message said that refund is scheduled to be sent by Feb 23ed, if not received by the 28th, I should contact my back. It’s direct deposit, which I was told I could receive it a couple of days earlier. I had never heard of only getting deposits on Wednesday’s and Friday’s, but with it being president’s day on Monday, I’m not sure what to expect. Just know that I needed my refund yesterday lol…good luck and God Bless us [email protected]: key word being “by” ….I hope and pray anyways

Accepted on feb 6 after 4:30pm, I had to go through a ton of validation because switched from e-file-dotccom to efile-dotcom.. irs is so petty and the only reason they do any of this is so they can “Forcefully Borrow” our money so they can fill their banks and collect interest off the work we slaves do for them. The longer they can justify our waiting times, the more interest they collect. I expected to have my money on the 18th but on the 18 they said by the 22nd…

I had to do another confirmation for my state check and I told the IRS worker that this all feels like an elaborate scam and she went completely silent and I had to change the subject slightly to get her to respond again.

Where’s my refund has updated for me to show it has been received and processed, but still doesn’t show a date. I believe there will be a lot of DD’s on 2/22. I read in a post that some banks, like mine, already have the DD and they have called and their bank has released the funds for them but most have not.

DD are sent on a Wednesday depending on your bank they may hold the funds until Thursday or Friday. They send paper checks on Fridays. I usually have mine DD to my PayPal and they do not hold the funds so for the last at least 5 years I have received my refund on a Wednesday.

We filed on the 29th. Had to wait until after the 15th to check the refund status. So this morning it had changed to a DDD of the 22nd of Feb. Hope this helps some of you wondering about your tax refund. Hope you get it soon. I’m sure they only deposit on certain days of the week. If I recall correctly, that is how it usually is. If anyone knows the dates please post. Think it’s wed for DDD and Fridays for paperchecks Don’t hold me to that

I filed January 30th it said accepted that same day and processing the next 2 then the 3rd day it said check back after the 15th. checked back and all it says is processing….. you have got to be kidding me. On the IRS website it states we will still process it like normal we just wont release the funds until after the 15th due to the new PATH act. What a bunch of bs…….. it should have been done processing by now if they actually did what they say on the website……

In the previous years, I received 11-13 days later. This is definitely longer than years past.

I know nobody cares about my personal situation but I am recently divorced single mother, highly educated and work full time. I am about to be furloughed until May at the earliest and really needed that tax refund. Very disappointed that it will be late. I get so frustrated with people saying negative things about those of us who are upset with PATH. We work hard for our kids and don’t deserve this at all. I know they are saying it is to protect us but I’m not so sure that’s the real reason they are holding these funds. Anyway thanks for letting me vent. Good luck to all of you.

I did my taxes through TurboTax, I submitted them on 1/5/2017. Today, I got an email from TurboTax, and a text message from the IRS stating that my refund had been accepted. I saw online that the tax season doesn’t start until 1/23. When I go to “Track My Refund” it says that it can’t find my refund. So I’m confused. How could it be accepted if the season hasn’t started yet? If it was accepted, why can’t they find it?

    So many questions. Please help…

  85. Happy Tax Season!

Once upon a time,a few years back, my wife had an issue with her direct deposit. Since she did not have a checking account we decided to have hers deposited into my account. DON’T DO THIS! If the name on the refund does not match the name on the checking account it will be rejected. So…..the IRS mailed a paper check instead. Well after some time we started to wonder what happened as we still haven’t received the check. Well since the post office did not have our names on their list of people living at our address, they sent it back to the IRS. Did not even attempt delivery!!! We lived there for a year. Why all of a sudden they reject mail!!?? So we had to go to the post office and put our names on their list showing we lived at the address we lived at. Then we had the IRS resend the check. After a week or two we finally received it. Let my lesson be a lesson for all. If you just moved to a new address, update it with the post office!!!

I filed and my return was accepted on January 27. In March I received a letter that the IRS are investigating my return and that they would either refund me on April 28 or send me another letter. It’s April 30. When calling the IRS I cannot get any information or the first human I get after multiple 30+ minutes on hold hangs up on me. Online my status is “Your tax return is still being processed.” It’s actually quite a lot of money and I am wondering who is receiving interest on this because it is not me.
Does anyone know what else I can do since they are not responsive by phone?

    Hello All,

Figured I’d give back and give some insight to anyone that hasn’t received their tax refund yet.

    2/11/16
    Filing Accepted

    2/29/16
    Bars Disappeared

    3/3/16
(21 days) Called the IRS @ 1-800-829-1040 Pressed 1 for english then press 2, 1, and 3. I waited and spoke to an agent that helped look over the refund status. Asked me a few questions to verify my ID. ***Keep in mind this does not have to do with the actual VERIFY process that the IRS mails out, it is simply to verify who I am so that he can pull up my tax refund information*** After waiting a few minutes he let me know that he did not see anything wrong with my refund and that nothing had been mailed out in regards to it. He let me know that although it was accepted on 2/11/16, the processing had not started until 2/18/16. He said this was due to it being a holiday weekend (Presidents Day.) He told me that technically it had only been 15 days since it was accepted. He told me to wait another week and if my status did not change to call back again.

    3/5/16
My bars reappeared with a refund date of March 9, 2016.

I hope this helped answer some questions! You will get your refund. Please remember that 9 out of 10 returns get approved in under 21 days so just be patient. Have a great Day!
