If an individual owes money to the federal government because of a delinquent debt, the Treasury Department can offset that individual’s federal payment or withhold the entire amount to satisfy the debt.

Hey everyone, I came across this forum today. I thought I’d also state my situation. Though it isn’t any different than what I see everyone else in here going through. Before this week, I have never used WMR OR requested transcripts on any tax year. I file with Jackson Hewitt and never get emails saying I’ve been “accepted”. So when you read this, I can not offer you an acceptance date.
I had one W2 form and was only covered with insurance for a portion of 2014. I also had my one child listed as my dependent and a tax form from the YMCA providing childcare costs for the year. Nothing unusual about the way I file this year compared to previous years. I did not have a 1098T this year though.
Here is my information.
1. I filed Wednesday 1/21 with Jackson Hewitt at one of their offices and opted for Direct Deposit.
2. I checked WMR about 4 days later for the first time. I had 1 bar saying my return was received and processing.
3. I received my state refund check for Missouri on Monday 1/26.
4. I got curious on Monday 2/2 and requested my online Tax return account transcript. I saw my last 2 codes were 896 and 570. I was alarmed and did a lot of research and here I am. With a much better understanding.
5. My cycle code I’d 20150402 with a date beside it saying 2/16/15. Also my account balance at the top shows my correct refund, but the summary at the bottom (of Account Transcript) has numbers that don’t add up to my refund amount. Then again I’ve never read a transcript for taxes as stated above.
This is all the information I have to offer. I’m not sure when my acceptance date was. I don’t get emails all these years from Jackson Hewitt telling me about acceptance and I have no idea where to find that date on my transcript. So I don’t know when my 21 day window expires. I will not be calling the IRS until my 21 days expire. Checked WMR and my transcript today and I’m still at 1 bar with 896/570 codes. I checked my previous years and I’ve never had any tax discrepancies until this year.
I will check with everyone again and I will let everyone know when I receive a change in status.February 4, 2015 at 9:23 pm #4102017
I am in an unhealthy committed relationship with my iPad & IGMR!
I want my life back! I feel like everyday is Groundhogs Day…February 4, 2015 at 8:55 pm #4102011
If our trans posted on the 26th, and our AS OF is : Feb. 16, 2015… is this that “21 day” window they speak of?
Although the 21 day window on TT says jan21 to Feb 10.
which has changed before ( i believe my first window was a week earlier)
Dont mind me, just more confusion. Haha.February 4, 2015 at 8:53 pm #4102010

@ty: because of @whathappened‘s theory and her solid proof she had to back it up with from the manual.
Also, just from the calls people have shared. It is starting to be consistent instead of variety of answers.
Plus, I got my refund amount back on Saturday and I NEVER has my refund amount lol. I see that as a movement.
Just know, you don’t always have to believe in others’ theories. If you believe there will be no update then there ya go! What more can you do? Ya know! This is all a waiting game and we come up with theories based on what we have read from people’s experiences and (if you read it lol) the irs manual.
I am so ready to be over with this for sure! I have never spent this much time on my phone/ipad lol. Even FB…so much time on there and then coming here. It’s ridiculous and sad haha.February 4, 2015 at 8:41 pm #4102000

Becareful what you wish for. lol. Now we will be blowing up your notifications! I can’t imagine it will go past the end of this week (Sunday) without us getting somewhere. I don’t think they are punishing us on top of the penalty, most of us should have had our money by last Friday, I think it has taken this week to fix the glitch and we will be paid by next Friday!February 4, 2015 at 8:30 pm #4101988
@ty: yep, I am 0402February 4, 2015 at 8:30 pm #4101987
Dang should have kept my mouth shut…
By the way why does everyone keep saying update tonight when the trannys up date in real time?????February 4, 2015 at 8:23 pm #4101983
WE HAVE LIFE IN HERE NOW!!!!!
2013 WHAT’S your cycle code…. is it the 02 one??? That’s what mine isFebruary 4, 2015 at 8:20 pm #4101982
Hi all. Joining the 896/570 club. I’m not able to view my transcripts online since I can’t seem to be able to register but I was able to order them thru the mail. Just got my account transcript today and saw the 896/570 codes on there. I have been driving myself crazy wondering why I hadn’t gotten my refund yet even though I was accepted way back on the 12th, had no offsets and everything on my return is correct. Now I know. Damn obamacare and Damn the irs for making this so difficult. Isn’t it bad enough that we are paying a penalty but they are making us suffer this needless wait with no information from them as to why we are waiting. Anyway, this group has been very informative. Hope we all see some movement soon. But at least now I am confident I should have my money by the end of the month.February 4, 2015 at 8:20 pm #4101981
Even if it updates tonight I highly highly dout u will get a dd on friday.February 4, 2015 at 8:19 pm #4101980
@NVKimi: I agree! I believe everyone else would agree too. It is coming! The answers are getting consistent with us getting a dd before the 16th especially when no letter has been sent to us yet. I know of people with only 570 has gotten 971 and some have ready gotten their letters. But no one with our cycle and codes have gotten a letter or 971.
A lot of 570 (only) had our cycle as well and they have gotten the notice/971 with last update. If we were also further delayed, we would have gotten a notice already or updated transcript with 971 as well.
I do believe we will have some with updates starting tonight and on. I will eat my words if we don’t lol. But I truly believe this week and next week will be our week(s) with movement or dd’s.February 4, 2015 at 7:55 pm #4101969
Nothing has changed with me either. I’m hoping transcripts update tonight since I have been locked out since last Wednesday. I also noticed TurboTax says 51% have received refunds and they last updated that percentage Wednesday. I need a glimmer of hope, a date for anytime in the future would be fine… I just hate being in the dark.February 4, 2015 at 6:27 pm #4101918
or should i say what we think we know? hahaFebruary 4, 2015 at 6:26 pm #4101917
@ty: i would update if there was anything new lol. nothing new besides what we already know :(.February 4, 2015 at 6:22 pm #4101914
I don’t know about everyone else but I’m just waiting to see what happens over the next few days. Maybe if we’re supposed to see dd on the 6th netspend people will see movement tonight or tomorrow.February 4, 2015 at 6:18 pm #4101910

@Brandi: read @AnotherVoice’s first post on calling them. It would probably be more helpful then calling straight to customer service so you can be transferred to the correct place.February 4, 2015 at 5:17 pm #4101877
I We received both 896 and 570 codes on our transcripts. The 896 has a Dollar amount next to it and the 570 has 0.00. Not sure how long returns have already been on hold so I’m not sure how long they will remain on hold. Trying to call IRS to see what they say. Fingers crossed it’s good!February 4, 2015 at 4:54 pm #4101865
Ok well that time I was transfured and I was on hold for 10 min then it said something along the lines of call baxk tomorrow….. guess to many ppl on holdFebruary 4, 2015 at 4:12 pm #4101845
@ty: I’m sorry that she connected you to the operator instead. She should have transferred you to Customer Service or at least given you the number, which is 800-829-0922. I wouldn’t bother calling that number, though, because you’ll have to go through the automated system and will probably end up waiting on the general line (if it even accepts you). It’s best to go through the Holds Department and get transferred. I just listed the steps that worked for me each time, but it no doubt depends on the representative that you get at the beginning. Personally, I would try again, especially since you don’t need to wait very long, but that’s just another one of my suggestions. I have found that they are very nice people in that department, though!February 4, 2015 at 4:06 pm #4101839
@ty: lol awwwwwFebruary 4, 2015 at 4:04 pm #4101838February 4, 2015 at 3:57 pm #4101830
Well I took the advice below and called the holds dept. And it was the most useless call ever…. I got the sweetest sounding granny ever. Lol she was way to nice…. well sugar u called the wrong dept but ill get u were u need to be.. And she connected me with the operator.. soihungupFebruary 4, 2015 at 3:06 pm #4101797

What happened to the person with the screen name whathappened? ????February 4, 2015 at 3:01 pm #4101791
It was Wednesday. I received mine Friday the 30th. My boyfriend has not due to the 896/570February 4, 2015 at 2:54 pm #4101787
This is from a recent turbo tax article, not forum thread…
“..When using the IRS’s online tool, it isn’t necessary to check back every day. The IRS only updates your refund status information once per week on Wednesdays. If you e-file your tax return, wait at least 72 hours from the date the IRS confirms receipt of your return before checking your refund status, and at least three weeks if you mail the return instead..”
If any of us have friends or family who got their refund last friday. Try to ask then if it was last wednesday when they notice an update?February 4, 2015 at 2:50 pm #4101786
Tt is still showing me the 10. That’s the thing every irs person is saying stuff differentFebruary 4, 2015 at 2:44 pm #4101779
@AnotherVoice: Thank you so much for sharing! Very informative!!!
Everyone, I know it is very frustrating with all this wait. Just remember we are all in this together!! :DFebruary 4, 2015 at 2:39 pm #4101771
Maybe tonight will be the night then. I didn’t know Wednesday was their main update night. Come on IRS, show me the money!February 4, 2015 at 2:31 pm #4101762
So I filed through TT. Same codes and dates as everyone else. I did just talk to someone in account adjustments and she said the hold would not be lifted until Feb 20. Which is 4 days after the 2/16/2015 date we all see on our transcripts. I want to be positive about this but im not sure I can be right now. I filed and was accepted on 1/23 and even on my TT refund tracker it says estimated refund date 2/20. Hopefully it comes sooner than then but at least we know that we will have it by then at latest. I hope the people that said it should be updated this week are right!February 4, 2015 at 2:29 pm #4101761
@ty The update will be sometime early next year…..just kidding. :)February 4, 2015 at 2:22 pm #4101757
Now dont put too much trust into this, but i stumbled across a few similar post and articles about the refunds. The irs does most updates on wednesdays as far as tax info goes. Would make some sense since thursday marks the 1st day in tax cycle. The deposits normally are received by the banks on fridays. Checking my last 2 years of returns..they were each on a friday. I found that the irs sends refunds 2 days a week. One is for electronic and the other is for paper checks. This is just in my case and it could very well be different for everyone elses as far as when their banks received/posted. Again dont put too much faith into this as its just from a few similar articles i came across.February 4, 2015 at 2:19 pm #4101751

I apologize if my comments were a bit rough. I thought Dr. Howard was trolling through here and was not really here to help. New intel or ideas is appreciated. My frustration with the situation reached my keyboard and my hands got carried away. I hope we all see our transcripts with approval code updates tomorrow and money friday.February 4, 2015 at 1:59 pm #4101729
Well dang u guess that just leaves me to be pointed at… I’m just get my helmets and crawl back in bed :(February 4, 2015 at 1:55 pm #4101724
@clemsonhistory I wasn’t referring to you at all with that comment. I apologize if it seemed that way. Sharing ideas and opinions probably isn’t getting anyone closer to their money, but neither is constant complaining and making snarky comments to people who do have an opinion. (Again, this is not directed at you). :)February 4, 2015 at 1:47 pm #4101720
Yeah, that’s what we get for electing democrats. That was a bad idea. I didn’t vote that way btw, lol. I didn’t like voting for McCain or Romney either. There just aren’t reasonable people in politics anymore. We all could have insurance if it were cheaper, and there is a way to make it cheaper. It’s called tort reform and allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines. Anywho… politics prob isn’t a good mix for the stress that’s going on, so I’ll keep my dumbness to myself.
Also, I didn’t mean people shouldn’t voice opinions either. I’m saying it’s good that we all do. I just tape my fingers together when I get on here, and just read lol. I only mean to be observant, not inciting arguments.

Yes. doc 2013 and I were playing around yesterday… got to do sometihing to pass time…. We all have our guesses on what’s going on. No one really knows at all whwn we will get it. Just trying to joke around to stay sane…. yes I did join the group… Holy cow there alot of ppl on that sight…. I can’t believe the goberment is making this many ppl wait… I can’t believe a congressman hasn’t done something about it.
By the way did everyone see where the aca is in the process of getting voted out??? My question is how can Obama veto It
IfFebruary 4, 2015 at 1:29 pm #4101711
So we can’t even post opinions in here now? What’s wrong with someone posting an idea or theory they may have on the situation? No one is forced to believe it or even read it, for that matter. Sheesh….February 4, 2015 at 1:20 pm #4101706
I didn’t mean to upset you. I said 11:59.59 as a joke. It’s satire. I didn’t mean to offend you. I’ve only read one of your posts, and I thought I gave you encouragement earlier. If you read back to yesterday, the Dr. Professor thing is a joke with ty and 2013taxpayer. I’m in this like the rest of us. I apologize again…
Dr. HowardFebruary 4, 2015 at 1:16 pm #4101701
It sucks doesn’t it. What we “know” really is just speculation… That’s why we have these sites. It’s funny, the people who created this site and the #club570 administrators all think we’re on to something each time there’s new “evidence.” Nope, we’re in limbo until it goes through. But, it does help us get by. I get excited every time I see new information, go research it, then go back to being mad, lol. Really, “researching” in real life is systematically identifying, and backing it with solid evidence. None of us can get solid evidence without being able to see the IRS computers. It blows… Did you join the dramatic Facebook group? People are funny, it’s starting to get into everyone fussing at each other without really fussing at each other. Just blunt quick comebacks, lol. It’s going to get worse before it’s over. You can’t put a bunch of people together like that, with that much tension to begin with, and expect happy results.
Dr. Prof. HowardFebruary 4, 2015 at 1:14 pm #4101700
@drhoward or whatever you are…whered you pull that update time from? Your last reply basically said the same thing we all knew…that returns take 21 days from date of acceptance…i dont see how you can say we will see updates by 11:59:59 considering updates come over night..as in after midnight. I am sure its safe to say people want facts and not your off opinions. Months and months ago many articles were written predicting a delay in taxes for people with these codes. What i cant understand is how they didnt develop the software and processes needed to get us our return in the same time frame as the other people who filed at the same time or even after us who have their returns already. There are NO real answers on this issue…NO ONE with the codes 570/896 ACA hold will get a direct answer. We are stuck here to worry till poof the money shows up one day. So because our government cant give us real answers to a large number of people with the same issue, i really worry. Regardless if im still inside the 21 days or not. When the government plays dumb and cant offer answers is when i worry…February 4, 2015 at 1:14 pm #4101699
I’ve just been lurking for the past week, but I’m in the same boat as a lot of you (896/570, 20150402) and just wanted to share what I’ve learned. I’ve spoken to no less than six representatives since I found out about this problem last week and have gotten a little closer to an answer with each call. On my last call, I was finally transferred to a representative who was trained in the Affordable Care Act (or so said the representative who transferred me). After looking through my account and return, this is what he told me:
1. First of all, I had filed my return correctly, and it was FULLY processed. They did not need anything more from me (no notices sent), and the refund was simply waiting to be sent out. My hold was STRICTLY related to my health care penalty. (Two other representatives had told me the same thing earlier, but they could not explain the hold.) IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH YOUR RETURN, THE REST CANNOT BE APPLIED TO YOU.
2. The hold was due to the fact that the full refund (that is, without the penalty) needed to be paid out by the IRS, the penalty payment transferred to the Marketplace, and then the rest sent to me. It could not be treated as an offset taken by the IRS.
3. I did, in fact, miss the 01/30 deposit date for my cycle, so in a sense, there was a delay, but he said he was certain that I’d get my refund before the 21-day mark. My payment was applied on the 26th, so he said I MIGHT get my refund Friday the 6th, but most likely, it’ll be Monday the 9th or possibly Wednesday the 11th (my 21-day mark). He said that they’re depositing Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
4. If, for some reason, I don’t get it on or before the 11th (again, my 21-day mark), I need to call them, because at that point, they have to tell Services that the 21-day expiry is up and that they either need to release the refund or send a notice.
That’s pretty much all I know at this point. The representative sounded knowledgeable (he said that he knew most representatives didn’t know what was going on with the ACA), but only time will tell. I, too, am tired of getting my hopes up, but it’s good when a somewhat consistent picture starts to emerge. If you’d like to call for yourself, I highly suggest the following approach:
1. Call the Holds Department at 866-897-3315. You will likely get a live representative very quickly after listening to the automated message (don’t worry about what it says).
2. Tell them that you have a hold on your refund (no need to go into detail). They will ask you questions about your account and pull it up.
3. At this point, they will need to transfer you, because they will see that the department is not responsible for the hold (unless you have some other hold, of course). The point, however, is that they’ve verified the hold on your refund. Two of my representatives even noted my account before transferring me.
4. You’ll then be transferred to Customer Service and will no doubt need to wait. However, once you get a live rep, tell them that you were transferred from the Holds Department because you have a hold on your refund but the Holds Department is not responsible for the hold. The representative will then take your information and look at your account, and you can proceed from there.
The important thing is that you make it clear that you know there is a hold on your refund (as already verified by the Holds Department) and that your transcript shows the correct refund amount that needs to be released, but a 570 code is preventing the release. Some representatives will be surprised to learn that you have your transcript, so make sure that you let them know that you can see all of this.
Hope that helps! Good luck and remember to keep everybody posted!
