Hello, this is our first time filing form 8379 Injured Spouse. I mailed it in Friday 2/23, is there a way to check on the status of this? Also, will this most likely be approved? I don’t have a clue! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The best way to see if it has been received is wait for it to appear on your transcript

Yes you can file the IS form and send it to the address in the link above, certified mail so you have a tracking number. Choose your state to get correct address. When it is accepted by IRS, get you a Tax advocate if you can prove hardship they may be able to help you get it sooner.

              Hope this helps.

The irs just took our entire refund. My wife is in a rehab program for student loans. So we didnt know to file injured spouse with the refund. Thought she safe because of the payment program shes on. So we filed jointly. Now they took everything. Plus we have hardship due to disabled children.
Im going to file injured spouse form to try and get it back. Do i mail this form certified? Can i fax it? Where do i send it to? What else can i do?? Please help

ou can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040; don’t select Option 1 for refund that will just take you to an automated response, instead: it should get you to a live person

                  – Choose Option 2 (Personal income tax)

                  – Then press 1 (Form, tax history, or payment)

                  – Press 4 (For all other questions)

                  – Press 2 (For all other questions)

                  – When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything. After is asks twice, you will get another menu

                  – Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions, it should then connect you to a live person

hello, I’ve also been trying to find information on how we will know if our form has been received. I mailed mine and I really have no idea on where we can check if it has been received

Hi, first time for me as well. I mailed mine in 3/1 and I just want to know if it was received. I hope I mailed to the correct location? and I just want an answer as to whether it is being processed or some type of status update. The IRS website and calling has been of no help because they both tell me that the refund was taken for an offset which I already know. I can’t believe that it has to be this difficult to find out/fix something I didn’t know about. I am seriously contemplating filing separately next year.
