I filed 1/29. My wife had a default student loan, however it was in the process of being consolidated (and is consolidated now and no longer in default). I had planned on filing the IS form and went thru the process on TurboTax. TurboTax told me the form wouldnt be ready for efile until 2/2 or something like that (first week of Feb). So I looked into it a bit. I found out they were not planning on offsetting and the consolidation was almost done. I went back and removed all the information in the IS form and e-filed. It never said anything else about the IS form (not that it wasn’t ready or that I was even filing it). However, after 21 days of waiting, I called the IRS and the lady I talked to said it HAD been filed. Whaaaaat? I asked her if I could have it removed. She research a bit and said no, but she but a note on my account that I didn’t mean to file the form and when it is assigned to someone they can release my refund. She also said to check back in a week.

Has anyone else been through anything like this? How long does it take to be assigned to someone? Is there really no way to remove a form that wasn’t supposed to be filed?

      very frustrating…
