Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2018?

The IRS has not announced the day it will open yet for 2018.  They begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 29, 2018.

When Can You File Taxes in 2018?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2018.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2018 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2018 tax season (2017 tax year) have been updated with 2018 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

So far, WMR is still just showing PATH act and no dd into account. I can’t call the IRS number bc I have laryngitis. I have received account and return transcripts, so I’m hoping for a ddd for next week hopefully

@LJ: Congrats on the update! We have no idea how they will be releasing them at this point, but if they do it based on when you updated then I wouldn’t expect it to be one of the first. Then again, who knows lol

I filed early and as of Monday it’s been a month. I do receive the EIC so I obviously knew I wouldn’t get my refund before the 15th but I was at least hoping to have a DDD by now. This is getting ridiculous.

@Kimikaze: Do you think it is possible that there will be or already is a different release code for us pathers, that the 846 code is no longer relevant since we were in a hold pattern?

@New beginnings: I don’t think so. I believe that part is still not required by the IRS. They just started implementing it on certain tax prep sites last year because there are a few states that require it for state refund so it is just easier to ask for it from everyone.

Oh good. Lol I had to call twice this morning because the first rep i spoke to had a really strong middle eastern accent I think. I couldn’t understand a word he said. I don’t think he understood me either. The second time the lady had an attitude and didn’t want to tell me anything. They are so completely useless. Filed 1/19 accepted 1/23. I wish they would have at least given is due dates today. We are completely in the dark. So irritating….

I have had the “still processing” msg since the first update and have been unable to order transcripts. The IRS agent let me know that I had a hold on my account that was released on February 10th (I did not ID verify). She stated that I would have to allow 9 weeks from that date to process. So, if you are still processing on WMR and haven’t got a letter yet, they probably just solved the issue without needing anything more from you. Still, I have to wait, but I dont mind now that I have an idea what I am waiting on!

Taxpayers who claimed the Earned Income Credit (EIC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit will have to wait a little longer for their federal refunds this year. That’s because a new law passed by Congress known as the PATH Act requires the IRS to work extra hard to protect us all from fraud, and to make sure you get the refund you are owed.

Unlike the usual 21 days or less, the IRS estimates that people who claimed these credits will start receiving their federal refunds the week of February 27. This is true for all taxpayers who claimed these credits, regardless of their tax prep method.

Some have since updated this past weekend and others received a letter. Since it has been 21 days since acceptance/opening you can call the IRS to find out what may be the hold up for you.

I think it is a safe estimate. The IRS said that we should see updates by Saturday. I think we will at least know what our DDD is within the next few days. That should help settle things.
