Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2018?

The IRS has not announced the day it will open yet for 2018.  They began accepting and processing tax returns on January 23, 2017 for the prior year.

When Can You File Taxes in 2018?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2018.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2018 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2018 tax season (2017 tax year) have been updated with 2018 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

Got off the phone with MA yesterday. I had filed twice 2 days apart because I had messed up the first time and forgotten a line from my w2 which stated how much state tax had been withheld. The second time I filed I was receiving the correct amount which was more than the first time. i was stuck in purgatory for 2 weeks but as of today they cancelled out my first return and i am on track to get my state refund. The lady said yesterday it would be within 2 weeks. Good luck to all you PATH people…

Hello all. If you go through the ID verification successfully. Do you get updated in WMR or you just sit in limbo?

if you have no credit delays (eic, etc) and have a simple return and use SBBT bank and netspend, funds are hitting. I got my funds just now on my netspend for my federal deposit. I filed 2.25, no holds or delays. I used turbotax with netspend.

@Dee31: Most refunds are issued within 21 days, but because of PATH they legally cannot issue them for the people with EIC or ACTC before the 15th. For a lot of early filers their 21 days is up or will be soon.

This is straight from the IRS site as of an hour or less ago:

“Where’s My Refund?” will be updated on Feb. 18 for the vast majority of early filers who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit. Before Feb. 18, some taxpayers may see a projected date or an intermittent message that the IRS is processing their return

The IRS just changed up again from saying just yesterday that we could check 2/16. What the hell!!!!

@David @ IA: Nope, no affect this year. I received a letter late 2014. My taxes were not affected because we were still in the period for dispute when we filed in January. The next year yes it was taken out.

I got a CP2000 letter today that stated that there is a difference in income for 2015 due to I believe a missed W2. It is giving me until March 15th to either agree or disagree. Do you think this will affect my refund I am waiting on now? I have all the transcripts and they look ok.

Where’s My Refund?” will be updated on Feb. 18 for the vast majority of early filers who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit. However, taxpayers may not see those refunds until the week of Feb. 27. Due to differing timeframes with financial institutions, weekends and the Presidents Day holiday, these refunds likely will not start arriving in bank accounts or on debit cards until the week of Feb. 27 — if there are no processing issues with the tax return and the taxpayer chose direct deposit.
