Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2018?

The IRS began accepting and processing tax returns on January 29, 2018.  According to the IRS, Where’s My Refund tool is the best way to check the status of your tax refund.

When Can You File Taxes in 2018?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2018.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2018 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2018 tax season (2017 tax year) have been updated with 2018 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@ManOfGod777: I meant yesterday morning. I didn’t realize it was 1 AM already when I posted that. My w Mr updated Friday (yesterday) morning to “being processed” and it stayed that way this morning too. The only good thing is that after reading all these posts I do see several people in the same boat as me this morning too… makes me feel better that maybe we update this week and it’s not something to worry about 🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏

@[email protected]: thanks! I’ll keep fingers crossed for all of us and hope for update soon , I don’t want to get transcripts this year and throw up flags, last year I did and I got a letter to I’d verify around the 20th of February, no refund till end of March, but transcript last year ended with 05 but I’m pretty sure I’m a weekly – I’ll keep posting as things happen :)

@shanaye35: I believe Saturday nights they do maintenance on WMR so it may go down, but very very few people ever see an update. I think those that do should have already had an update, but for whatever reason it didn’t go through.

Has anyone moved and changed their address with the IRS on their tax return. The lady I spoke with at the IRS says it can take about two weeks to do so that way. Just wondering how true that is. It did take about two weeks when I did so two years ago. Wondering if that is the same for most.

    Hello,

Received an update today on WMR. I got a tax topic 152 message and talks about how PATH cannot be issued before the mid of February. I did not think I was on the PATH program because I don’t get earned income credit and I don’t know for sure if I fall under the ACTC. I claim 3 kids but does that make me go under ACTC? I finally have access to my online tax transcripts. Which one do I look at and where at on the form to see my deposit date if there any? Thanks for any information.

In order to get that 846 code that triggers WMR to show deposit date the money transactions have already started ….you won’t see a DDD on WMR until the money chain has started

I think I may be on a different update schedule. My WMR seems to update every 4 days.

2/3: Filled, accepted, one bar and processing.
    2/7: Bar gone with PATH
    2/10: Ordered both transcripts
2/11: “Expecting” another update to my WMR tonite like last year.
    2/15: “Expecting” funds to released.
2/16: “Expecting” to have funds in bank account

2017: DD received on 2/16 with offset **followed EXACT timeline as this year**

    Here’s to hoping😇

Does anyone else follow this processing pattern??
…and would this pattern define me as a Weekly or Daily processor??
    MOD feedback much appreciated😎

    I HAVE A QUESTION:
My brother only worked one month in 2016 before he was arrested but he received his W2, which never got filed because he didn’t gross much that year. However, he’s been out n he worked all of 2017, filed his taxes this year and is now being held up. He has custody of his 2 children and they are in his care so he claimed them(EIC/ACTC)he filed on 1/29, had one bar until last Saturday and he now has “still being processed” with no tax topic. He hasn’t received any letters or any codes so do you think he is held up because he didn’t file his previous year taxes and should he just go on and file for 2016 or just leave it alone and wait it out???

@Katey: we have the exact codes so it doesn’t mean much because they haven’t finished processing us. We need to see code 846 on there then we good

What be like everyone! When going through the yearly archives, is there a way to skip over pages, or get to a page quicker than going one page at a time?
