Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2018?

The IRS has not announced the day it will open yet for 2018.  They begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 29, 2018.

When Can You File Taxes in 2018?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2018.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2018 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2018 tax season (2017 tax year) have been updated with 2018 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@Jeri: The IRS will not begin accepting returns until the 29th. We may see some earlier if they are part of a test batch. I am thinking that may be on 1/22

Hello. I file as HOH every year but my teenage daughter started working at the mall late last year. Does she need to file her own taxes this year or is 16 too young to file her own taxes?

I know the date is the 29th this year but people were getting accepted earlier than that. Does anyone know when the early test batches start?

I would most definitely check with a Tax consultant. I would think if they say you owe them money they would hold future returns until it’s paid but again depends on why they are auditing you.

If at all possible, you should have a separate bank account showing the cash deposits. In addition, keep records of any expenses related to the self employment. If you were to be audited, you will need to provide the IRS with the records.

I filed in office with H&R Block today and applied for the refund advance. I have awful (570s)credit so I don’t think it’s based heavily on credit. I was approved for $3000. I only got $500 last year and my returns are always over 8k. So it seems to me that first timers might get less than people who got the advance last year too.

You begin the process on student loans.gov it is actually a very simple self explanatory process. I started mine the beginning of December and it’s done, now just waiting for the offset to drop off before I file. They said that should take place in the next two weeks or so.

When you fax or mail it back it is received by a, for lack of a better term, sorting department. It is then forwarded to your examiner who should be closing your examination within 24 hours. At that point, it takes approximately 2-3 weeks for the refund to be issued.

I guess they do not direct deposit it, they send a check. Really happy this is finally happening but wondering the wait time…thanks for any info/input!!

Im thinking my return may be delayed because I wasn’t insured for like 4 months

The 27th will be the earliest people will see deposits although I got mine the 20th last year with a DDD of the 23rd. So don’t worry about what they say. Amy time after the 15th is possible.

That’s what I’ve read. Who knows? I have an appointment to file with H&R Block on Jan 18th like I do every year and am not expecting to see anything until late February.
